It’s hard to get bored when you’re an Idahoan and there are literally hundreds of hiking trails to explore. Every trail guarantees a unique adventure, but the ones listed here are considered the very best. These trails are absolutely perfect for creating summer memories you surely won’t forget!

  1. Beehive Lakes

Ryan Forney/AllTrails Beehive Lakes is situated high in the Selkirk Mountains, and offers a beautiful view of a lake tucked within thick forest. This trail is a moderate 7.4 mile out and back located near Sandpoint, Idaho.

  1. Blossom Lakes Trail

Dan Schaefer/AllTrails This trail is a 5.5 mile out and back trail located near Murray, Idaho. This lightly trafficked trail straddles the Idaho and Montana border, and is rated as a moderate hike.

  1. Chilco Mountain Trail

Bill Grace/AllTrails This trail is located north of Coeur d’Alene and offers a gorgeous 360 degree view at the top. It is a 3.6 mile out and back, although the trailhead offers three different trails differing in length and overlooks.

  1. Iron Creek to Sawtooth Lake

Jarrett Mitchell/AllTrails This hike may easily become one of your favorites. It offers absolutely breathtaking scenery on its 8.9 mile out and back trail. With lots of switchbacks this trail may be more difficult for beginner hikers, but the view of the lake at the end is well worth the hike.

  1. Lucky Peak

Scott Conover/AllTrails Lucky Peak is a 13.5 mile loop trail located near Boise, Idaho. This trail has an elevation of about 3,115 feet and is known to be quite strenuous. The payoff is a panoramic view of, well, pretty much everything (Bogus Basin, Downtown Boise, Lucky Peak Lake, the Treasure Valley, etc.).

  1. Caribou Ridge National Recreation Trail

Bill Grace/AllTrails Caribou Ridge is a 9.2 mile out and back trail with amazing views of Lake Coeur d’Alene and the Beauty Creek Campground. It is also a great trail for huckleberry picking! This hike is rated as difficult because the trail narrows with steep drop-offs in some parts.

  1. Indian Cliff Trail

Mary Nordhausen/AllTrails Indian Cliff Trail is located within Heyburn State Park. It is a relatively easy 3 mile loop trail near Plummer, Idaho and has some pretty great views of Lake Chatcolet.

  1. Revett Lake

Jerome Pollo/AllTrails Revett Lake is a 4.8 mile loop trail located in the Coeur d’Alene National Forest. This is an easy, family friendly hike that contains a waterfall.

  1. Mineral Ridge National Recreation Trail

Brett Holt/AllTrails Mineral Ridge is a well maintained and signed 2.5 mile loop with an amazing view of Beauty bay and Wolf Lodge bay of Coeur d’Alene Lake.

  1. Scotchman Peak Trail

Jojo Jaeger/AllTrails Scotchman is a 5.7 mile out and back near Clark Fork, Idaho. This is a relatively short but strenuous climb, with an elevation gain of 3,812 feet! The reward is an incredible view of Lake Pend Oreille at the highest point in all of Bonner County. An extra bonus with this trail are the many mountain goats you will encounter!
