Missourians are known for saying and doing some pretty weird things from time to time, but any Missourian would cringe if they saw another local doing one of these things.
- Swim in the Missouri River.
Vincent Parsons/Yelp There’s plenty to do along the Missouri River, but swimming just isn’t one of those things.
- Add ketchup to a slab of ribs or burnt ends.
Carlos D./Yelp No way. The only thing that should ever be added to Missouri BBQ is more Missouri BBQ sauce.
- Cheer on the Royals.
Keith Allison/flickr No self-respecting Cardinals fan in Missouri would ever root for these guys. Even if they did win a World Series championship recently.
- Or root for the Cardinals.
St. Louis Cardinals/Facebook Likewise, if you’re a Royals fan, you wouldn’t be caught dead cheering for the Cards.
- Rely on the weather forecast.
Curt Wohleburg/flickr As hard as the weather people on the news try, a predicted forecast in Missouri is never guaranteed. And it often leads us to scratching our heads if we see a dusting of snow in April.
- Remain quiet and calm at a Kansas City Chiefs game.
The Kansas City Chiefs/Facebook Our football fans currently hold the record for loudest cheering at an NFL game and we didn’t get that record by sitting down and using inside voices, that’s for sure.
- Go on a float trip empty handed.
OakleyOriginals/flickr Well-seasoned locals know that every float trip requires a cooler filled with both food and drinks. Everyone knows that river floating is meant to be a relaxing activity, not a race to the finish.
- Limit the amount of butter in cakes.
Dan B./Yelp We didn’t popularize the Gooey Butter Cake in St. Louis for health reasons. Who cares if it’s high in calories? As long as it’s high in deliciousness.
- Run away from a tornado.
Vincent Parsons/flickr Just because we have tornadoes, doesn’t mean we’re going to abandon home and move somewhere “safer.” Tornado warnings on the TV and radio are somewhat common when you live in the Show-Me State.
- Forget where home is.
Patrick Wilson/flickr Whether or not you live in Missouri anymore, you’ll never be able to forget the beautiful state that you once called home.
What types of things would you never be caught dead doing in Missouri? We’d love to hear from you in the comments below!
