I might be biased since I’m a born and raised Texan, but I’d like to think our state is the most beautiful in terms of nature. I mean, we have everything – mountains, desert, forest, rivers…you don’t even have to leave the state to get a little taste of all that Mother Nature has to offer. And not only that – some of these formations are so breathtaking you may not even think they’re real until you see them firsthand. Here are 10 enchanting places in Texas that look like something from your dreams.
- Hamilton Pool (Dripping Springs)
Flickr/darrellrhodesmiller There’s no way I couldn’t include Hamilton Pool in a list of enchanting places in Texas. With its breathtaking limestone overhang and picturesque waterfall trickling down onto a rock below, it’s reminiscent of a mystical grotto from a Disney movie.

- West Texas night sky
Flickr/aneyefortexas This may look photoshopped, but it’s as real as can be. If you’ve never been in the remote West Texas desert at night, it’s truly a spectacular sight. The outer band of the Milky Way is visible along with thousands of other twinkling stars illuminating the darkness for a show you’ll never forget.
- Willow City Loop (Fredericksburg)
Flickr/davehensley Wildflowers might exist throughout the Texas hill country, but the abundance and vibrancy that exists in this particular area of Fredericksburg is indescribable. The beautiful reds and blues on the roadside contrast with the green grass for a view that you just can’t find anywhere else.
- Big Bend

Flickr/joe_mac_1 Big Bend just might be the most magical place in Texas. The towering mountains are nothing short of breathtaking, and the feeling when you’re standing at the summit, looking down on the world around you, is like nothing you could ever imagine.
- Lost Maples State Natural Area (Vanderpool)
Flickr/bettytimm If there’s any place in Texas that looks straight out of a fairytale, it’s this one. The colors are amazing and strolling underneath the vibrant maple trees will make you feel like you’ve been whisked away to a fantasy land.
- Gorman Falls (Bend)
Flickr/davehensley You may have to hike for a while to reach the waterfall, but once you do, you’ll be absolutely blown away at the beauty unfolding before your eyes. The water cascading down the large rocks with lush greenery surrounding them will remind you of a scene from Tarzan.
- Caverns of Sonora (Sonora)
Flickr/amyashcraft This incredible cavern started forming over one million years ago in the tiny West Texas town of Sonora. It’s been deemed one of the most beautiful places in the world, with more stalactites, stalagmites, and sparkly crystal than most caverns in the entire world.
- Blue Lagoon (Huntsville)
Flickr/roofless Texas isn’t exactly known for having the bluest water, especially 75 miles north of Houston - but Blue Lagoon is just that and more. It isn’t artificial, either; it’s a natural spring-fed body of water that’s so uncharacteristically blue, you’d think you were swimming in dye. It’s beautiful.
- Palo Duro Canyon (Canyon)

Have you ever been to any of these places? Where else in Texas is so beautiful it’s hard to believe it actually exists?
