The Jersey Shore is known for a variety of things but the beaches are a primary draw. Coming in second, the dining scene. There is a wide range of incredible restaurants to choose from, but there are certain quintessential foods that can’t be missed. These are the foods you just HAVE TO have when you’re visiting New Jersey’s coast. If you’re lucky enough to live by the beach, even better – these delicious dishes are right at your fingertips. They’re listed below, in no particular order.
- Fralinger’s Salt Water Taffy
Flickr/vipnyc Saltwater taffy got its start in Atlantic City back in the 1880s; Fralinger’s was one of the first companies to produce the sweet, sticky treat.
- Brown’s Donuts
Yelp/Erika H. Brown’s Family Restaurant in Ocean City claims to have “Almost Famous” donuts, but they’re pretty famous to us. A full service eatery, the donut line can get pretty long - for good reason. The honey dipped donuts are a favorite.
- The White House Special
Yelp/Jake B. White House Sub Shop has been serving Atlantic City delicious sandwiches since 1946. A shore staple, their special sandwich is overflowing with meat, cheese and flavor. Half a sub will fill you up!
- Kohr’s Frozen Custard
Yelp/Marie Z. Kohr’s has been serving up the best custard on the Jersey Shore since 1919. There are several South Jersey locations and a recent addition to the local chain can be found in Fairfield.
- Curley’s Fries
Facebook/Curley’s Fries Nothing says summer quite like a cup of crispy fries fresh from the boardwalk. This Wildwood spot is a favorite.
- Dentato’s Italian Sausage
TripAdvisor/Rolling Stone Chica Dentato’s Clam Bar in Seaside Heights has great clams, but it’s their sausage that stands out!
- Manco & Manco Pizza
Facebook/Manco & Manco Pizza An Ocean City favorite since 1956, this pizzeria has an almost cult-like following. Thousands of fans flock here each summer.
- Hot Dog Tommy’s Hot Dogs
Facebook/HotDog Tommy’s A Cape May classic, this eatery is a local legend. In business for decades, a new owner recently took over. Still, I’ve heard the hot dogs are just as mouthwatering as ever.
- Mustache Bill’s Omelet
Yelp/K V The pancakes here are a favorite but their omelets are essential. Pictured is a Philly cheesesteak omelet but you can’t go wrong with anything at this Barnegat Light diner.
- The Chicken Or The Egg Wings
Facebook/The Chicken Or The Egg Fans of this eatery are obsessed, and for good reason. The Chegg Army flocks to Beach Haven for the best breakfast around, served all day long. The wings though, the can’t be missed. Choose between bone-in and bone-out and pick your favorite sauce from a spicy selection of 17 options.
