Northern California is the most beautiful place on earth. We’re famous for so many things, but our natural landscape is one of the most incredible on the planet. We can just look at a photo and know without a doubt “this is home.” Hollywood has helped promote what we already know: the scenery here is awesome.
Here are some mind-blowing sceneries that totally define Northern California.
- Lombard Street

- Mount Shasta
flickr/terry fuerborn Is there anything more majestic than Mount Shasta? She’s a volcano we’re hoping is dormant. You can find her at the south end of the Cascade Mountains. Ranking number two in highest mountains in California, she stands tall at 14,000 feet.
- Redwood Trees
flickr/andrew Northern California sentries stand guard here. The giants of our part of the world. They loom hundreds of feet in the air and remind us of just how small we are. Take a hike under their canopy. It’s like being in another world.
- Golden Gate Bridge
flickr/neil howard She’s the beauty queen by the bay. If we had a penny for every photo taken of her, Bill Gates would be working for us. She shouts Northern California and makes us all proud. If you’ve never driven across, springtime is a great time. Feeling adventurous? Walk across her.
- Emerald Bay

We’ve taken care of our historic towns so future generations will understand just where they’ve come from and how hard our people have worked around here. Placerville is a good example of history and a phenomenal small-town feel. Walk Main Street and take in the sights. Thomas Kincade grew up here. If you own one of his paintings then you’ll see how this historic town was his inspiration with so many of his works of art.
- Sailing
flickr/matt zimmerman With the Pacific Ocean always here, we have a boating lifestyle that goes deep. Sailboats, jet boats, or fishing boats. When you see one on the water you can’t help but think of Northern California every time.

Kyle Harmon Scenery is often times just people-watching. And, boy howdy, can you get a belly full of people-watching here. What began as the hippy movement in the ’60s has become the mecca for extreme liberal thinking. “If it feels good, do it” is the mantra around here. Hipsters are the grandchildren of their hippy grandparents. You can find them here always ready to make quite a “scene.”
