Wildlife should not be scary.  Or annoying.  There is so much more than just the bear out in the woods or the deer that keeps eating your garden.  In Connecticut, the wildlife can be absolutely amazing.  If you’re new to Connecticut, check out what we have going on:

  1. Turkey

tony_mateus/Flickr This turkey captured in Enfield is just out for a light jog. In fact, I come across turkey pretty often when I’m on a jog of my own.

  1. Sunbathing turtles

Claire/Flickr These guys love catching the sun just as much as people do. Some people like to pick them up, but I prefer to watch from a distance.

  1. Birds

Claire/Flickr Setting up a bird feed in Bristol could get you a cool shot like this too, especially now that the weather is starting to turn. I can’t wait to wake up to them singing.

  1. Squirrels

Claire/Flickr When I have visitors from out of town, they exclaim that we have some of the largest squirrels they’ve ever seen. I think that’s because Connecticut is so green we’re actually keeping them well fed.

  1. Seagulls

Claire/Flickr They don’t bother you as much as some of the ones I met on my trip to California. They mostly go about their own business, which is fine by me.

  1. Butterflies

Don Rogers/Flickr These guys, on the other hand, love to make friends. I’ve had a lot of opportunities to snag close ups of butterflies because they will come right over to you.

  1. Egrets

Eric Heupel/Flickr This fluffy guy was spotted in New London. I think these are so cool, but they have such a serious facial expression.

  1. Toads

Don Rogers/Flickr These are fun to catch, but you should always put them back. One of my favorites is driving by the reservoir at night and just listening to them talk.

  1. Hermit Crabs

Eric Heupel/Flickr That’s right. I never understood why they sold these at the mall because you could find these on your own.

  1. Groundhog

Eric Heupel/Flickr Remember that woodchuck tongue twister you could never say? Who cares! Here’s a groundhog just walking along in Connecticut.

Bonus: Milford Point - Milford

Bruce Berrien/Flickr Because where else can you see floating orange grass as vibrant as this? Connecticut wildlife can surprise and enchant you at every turn.

Isn’t Connecticut’s nature scene just the best?
