Most of us absolutely adore our home state, and couldn’t imagine living elsewhere even if our lives depended on it. However, you do have to watch out for certain things when you live here, because as awesome as Texas is, you do have to keep an eye out for the following threats. We love you, Texas, but we could do without these terrifying things.
- Hurricanes
alejandro polanco/flickr Although most people in Texas have common sense and know to evacuate when one of these bad boys makes it way toward us, some people prefer to stay behind and ride out the storm. Please don’t be one of those people.
- Flooding

- Tornadoes
NSSL NOAA/Flickr I think if you don’t drive next to tornadoes like the person in this picture, and remain in a sturdy, enclosed structure, you should be okay.
- Crappy drivers
Todd Dwyer/Flickr This totally exceeds crappy…this is downright appalling, and drivers like this should just do us all a favor and get off the roads so we can drive in peace.
- Snakes
Patrick Feller/Flickr Texans are no strangers to snakes, but they still can be terrifying if you come across one while hiking. As long as you keep your distance and don’t intentionally provoke the snake, I think it will stay in its happy place.
- Alligators/crocodiles

- Deer
texaseagle/flickr You might be thinking, “How can Bambi really hurt me?” Well, these deer might look docile and innocent, but when they run across the road and you hit them driving 50 or 60 mph, they don’t seem all that harmless anymore..
- Fried food
darren and brad/flickr Alright, so fried food isn’t exactly terrifying, but sadly, too much of it doesn’t exactly make your arteries/heart/intestines very happy campers…
- Traffic jams
faungg/flickr I think everyone dies a little inside when they see cars at a standstill on the freeway, especially when it doesn’t seem to move FOR HOURS..
- Redheaded centipedes
chriscosta77/flickr These creepy crawlies can inject a painful toxin into the skin, which could potentially kill you if not treated properly. Just looking at it gives me the chills…
