For all of you adventurers at heart, there’s no reason you should mark Tennessee off your list during those chilly winter months. No, you need to slip right on down to the south for a chilly, wonderful time in our great outdoors. Take a look at what makes Tennessee so great during the colder months.
- Chattanooga
Charlene N. Simmons / Flickr Check out the fun events that go on during the winter in this river city, or cuddle up by the fire in one of their neat-o restaurants. This is a great place to explore!
- Skinny Falls
Michael Hicks / Flickr One word: gorgeous. I mean, take a look at those natural icicles! They’re INSANE.
- Percy Warner Park
Derek Bruff / Flickr Taking a quick run has never been a beautiful as this wonderful park situation outside of Nashville.
- Fall Creek Falls
Brian Wolfe / Flickr Beautiful, frozen falls make it to the top of the list in our book. Just be careful when you’re hiking in, and bring a solid jacket!
- Lower Busby Falls
Michael Hicks / Flickr Tullahoma has quite the gem here, especially in January and February - the latter if you’re looking for a better temperature outlook.
- Those snowy Nashville streets
Paul Nicholson / Flickr Nashville is very rarely covered in snow, which means when it IS you need to book it on down there and spend a bit of time on those gorgeous southern streets.
- Radnor Lake
Michael Hicks / Flickr Brentwood is standing strong with Radnor, plus there’s a fairly large walking loop that makes it real easy to get around.
- Suter Falls
Michael Hicks / Flickr This is not for the faint of heart - careful, dedicated hikers need only apply for a fun (if cold) adventure.
- Memphis at night
Luca Sartoni / Flickr There’s a lot going on in Memphis all year ‘round, but the Mississippi looks pretty dang good when your breath is making puffy clouds in the air and you have a hot cocoa in your hand.
- The Great Smoky Mountains
The Shared Experience / Flickr The views are enough to pull you in, and enough to bring you back. This perennial national park is a must no matter the time of year.
