What better way to celebrate Halloween and the month of October than by going to some of the spookiest and most haunted places in the state? I’ve done some research and put together a list of 10 pretty spooky places. Yes, this list is not exhaustive. In fact, we’ve featured several pieces on spooky/scary places in the state. This is just a list of some you really should check out in honor of the month of all things spooky!
- Paul Ruster Park
Valerie Everett Legend has it that many years ago a young boy was killed near the train tracks by this park and was buried in the foundation of his home. If you walk the path through the woods of this park, you’re supposed to be able to hear the harmonica he played and maybe even see his ghostly spirit!
- Edna Collings Covered Bridge
Jimmy Emerson, DVM Legend has it that there was a young girl who used to swim in the stream under the bridge. Her parents would come to the bridge and honk three times when it was time for her to stop and come home. The young girl supposedly drowned in the stream and if you stop on the bridge and honk three times her spirit will come get in your vehicle.
- Baldwin Cemetery
Jennifer Located in Vernon, there’s no ghost story or legend behind this cemetery. However, cemeteries are always spooky around Halloween and this one is no exception!
- Sim Smith Covered Bridge
Jimmy Emerson, DVM Originally constructed back in 1883, this covered bridge is rumored to be haunted by unknown spirits.
- Weddleville School
Jennifer Did you know the Weddleville School is one of the oldest schools to still be standing in the state? Who knows what ghosts could be hiding in such an old and abandoned building!
- Mysterious Haunted House in Vernon
Jennifer I don’t think a house can look as creepy as this one without having some kind of ghostly secrets.
- Crown Point Cemetery
Steve Baker I don’t know about you, but this picture sure makes it look haunted…
- White Oak Cemetery
Barbara Krawcowicz Another spooky cemetery that’s perfect for the month of October.
- Lindberg Rd
Daniel Zedda Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a picture of the actual haunted road. Despite the lack of picture, it doesn’t make this story any less creepy.
Legend has it that 20 years ago there was a house on Lindberg Rd that caught fire. The family got out of the house in time, except for the middle son who is believed to still haunt the home.
- Old Anderson High School
Nitram242 Again, I feel the need to note this picture is not of the actual school. There are actually two different ghostly hauntings in this old and abandoned school. In the basement, you can hear the screams of a young school girl who was violated and killed. There are also believed to be ghosts who throw things at you if you overstay your welcome.
What spooky spots in Indiana do you plan to visit for Halloween? Have you ever visited any of these places? Have any spooky stories to share? Tell me all about them in the comments!
