Most of us have so much love and respect for our state, from the breathtaking scenery to the delicious foods to the generous, kind-hearted people. However, if you’ve lived in Texas for a good portion of your life, you have probably grown to despise the following things about living here.
- Everyone, their mother, and their mother’s dog moving here.
thomas hawk/flickr We get it y’all, Texas is really great, but you can always just come to visit, and then, you know, go back where you came from.
- Traffic jams galore
whatknot/flickr And, because of the influx of people moving here, we get to sit in traffic for hours on end while we try to get to work on time. Not fun.
- Texas summers
george thomas/flickr We tolerate them, and even enjoy them for the first few weeks, but then we start praying for winter to get here already.
- Texas winters
sharon/flickr And then, we start praying for summer when winter gets here. Because winter sounds like a good idea in theory, but we’ve learned the hard way that we would much rather opt out of it.
- Mosquitoes
sanofi pasteur/flickr Remind me why these things exist again?
- Getting sunburned
zlatko unger/flickr Even if you slather on the sunscreen every hour, you will inevitably get sunburned at least once during the summer. And Texas sunburns are not like other sunburns, trust me.
- People treating Texas as a trashcan
nixbc/flickr Despite the threat of large fines, I still see trash thrown all over the place when I’m out and about. It’s really not that hard to go throw your trash in an actual trash can, y’all.
- Flooding
steve rainwater/flickr No matter how many times we’ve experienced it firsthand, we will never get used to it. Rain = good. Too much rain in a short period of time = you’ve gotta be kidding me.
- Hurricanes
alejandro polanco/flickr Just like with flooding, you get used to the hurricanes. But still, it’s not like we’re inviting them in with open arms or anything.
- People dissing our state
texas state library and archives commission/flickr It seems more and more people move here, yet complain about living here. Well, if you don’t like it here, then please do us a favor and leave more space for the people who actually love our state. Thank you!
Do you agree with this list? What else could you do without in the great state of Texas? Let us know in the comments!
