It’s almost summer, so we are definitely planning for all the amazing things we will do when it turns warm (for good). Here are 11 things you should do on a hot summer day in Illinois.
- Lake Kinkaid Spillway
Curtis Abert/Flickr This is the best swimming hole in Illinois. Head over to southern Illinois and let the water rush over you. Then, float in the deep pools.
- Hurricane Harbor
Six Flags Great America/Facebook Many people head to Six Flags on hot summer days in Illinois. But why not hit up Hurricane Harbor this time? Provided you plan well, you can hit both parks.
- Grizzly Jack’s Grand Bear Resort

- Illinois Beach State Park

- Millenium Park
Juan Carlos Martin/Flickr Kids love running through the fountains here during the summer. You might get a few looks, but adults definitely do it, too.
- KeyLime Cove
KeyLime Cove Indoor Waterpark/Facebook This indoor water park covers 65,000 square feet. The cool thing you’ll notice right away about the hotel is that the slides go both inside and outside the hotel. In addition to the water, there is a place to eat and also an arcade, as well as other activities for the kiddos.
- Rend Lake

- Go for a drive.
Dave Herholz/Flickr Head down a scenic route like the Great River Road. Cool drinks and AC will help cool you down.
- Shedd Aquarium
Shedd Aquarium/Flickr Sometimes, when it’s hot outside, the last place you will want to be is outdoors. Come inside and be surrounded by water and all the creatures that live in it.
- Kayak

- Go sailing.
