While growing up in Alabama, I learned many life lessons. And most of these life lessons came straight from my grandparents. They were firm believers that everyone should be kind to others and be content with what they already have. I’m the person I am today because of these wonderful life lessons. Listed below are 12 life lessons you’re probably familiar with if you grew up in Alabama.

  1. Family is important.

  1. Never take things for granted.

  1. Always respect your elders.

  1. Be true to yourself.

  1. You can do anything you set your mind to.

  1. Never give up.

  1. Money isn’t everything.

wikimedia commons Some of the happiest people in the world don’t have a dollar to their name, and some of the richest people are also the most miserable. You’ve got to be content with that you have. Yes, you have to have money to live, but it won’t buy you happiness.

  1. Always be kind and treat people the way you want to be treated.

  1. Things aren’t always as they seem.

They most likely can’t afford everything they have and feel like they have to do it to impress others. You may also know someone who doesn’t look like he or she has a dollar to their name, but their bank account may prove otherwise. Don’t be so quick to believe everything you see.

  1. Always express gratitude.
