When you’re thinking about a place to live, you consider a lot of things. You probably want a place with at least some amenities, but you don’t necessarily want to live in a sprawling metropolis. This list of Illinois towns are going to be just right for you.

- St. Charles

- Marion

- Alton

- Charleston

- Crest Hill

You might know Crest Hill because of Stateville prison, where many killers (including Gacy) were put to death. Fortunately, the town residents are nice and the town has a friendly feel. There are plenty of places to eat. It is right by Lockport, and residents can use some of their amenities, too.

- Edwardsville
Illinois2011/Wikimedia Edwardsville is located in southern Illinois and is home to SIU Edwardsville. It has a population of around 24,000 people. Trails and a wildlife preserve make this a nice place for those who enjoy the outdoors. It has also been named one of the top places to raise kids.
- Glen Ellyn
