Have you ever driven past a street and thought, what a lovely street name, I’d love to live on that street (just to have the address of course)? Something like, Vineyard Road or Blue Mountain Dr. Something cute, fun, renowned. Maybe if you grew up in the country, or your family owned a lot of land, your grandpa or father named the streets, and today they still exist with that name.
Either way there are some great street names, and then there are some ‘what where they thinking’ ones. North Carolina has no shortage of strange towns names, but it seems our streets are hiding the real weird. Here are twelve awesome, weird, wacky, or laughable street names.
- Puddin’ Ridge Road
http://houndstoothfreak.deviantart.com/art/Cute-Pudding-Cup-X-152496430 Puddin Ridge Road is found in Moyock. For one thing, it rolls off the tongue nicely.
- Circumferential Road
genius.com Unlike the above, Circumferential Road is a mouthful. It seems there are some math enthusiasts in Albermarle.
- World’s Edge Road
Flickr / Jake Kitchener With sweeping mountain views (like pictured above) in Hendersonville, it’s no surprise they’re home to a road with such a cool name.
- Lickskillet Road
zazzle.com You’d be surprised, there’s a Lickskillet in Franklin, Warrenton, and Burnsville.
- Walk a Long Way
Flickr / Andreas Andersson Found in Mount Holly, I really hate when street signs tell me what to do.
- Makepeace St.
Flickr / Danny Hammontree This street in Sanford is all about just spreadin’ some love, man.
- Street Ave.
Flickr / Steve Loya Found in Charlottte. I guess Street Avenue happens when everyone rejects your creative street names, so you choose the most simple, basic one you cant think of and then some writer on the internet still makes fun of it.
- Jones Sausage Road
Flickr / Christopher Najewicz So, was there a Jones who made sausage and decidedly named a road in Garner?
- Hooker Road
century21.com Found in Wilmington, this road is actually quite pretty.
- Bomb Proof Road
Flickr / Alex G. With Fayetteville’s close proximity to Fort Bragg, this road name makes sense.
- Coon Hunter Trail
northcarolinasportsman.com Surprisingly enough (not really) there are TWO Coon Hunter Trails in North Carolina. One in Supply, one in Castle Hayne. I guess now we know where to go coon huntin.'
- Incinerator Road
Flickr / apionid I think we can turn down the intensity level of street names a bit, Clyde, North Carolina.
