It’s officially Christmas in Wisconsin. Time to meet with family and friends. But are you really in the Christmas spirit? Or are you looking to make the Christmas spirit last a few days longer?

Here are a few of the things you can do in December in Wisconsin to get you in the Christmas mood and extend the season as long as possible.

  1. Attend your local Christmas Parade.

Flickr/Oldonliner It seems every city and community has one and they are a great way to kick off the holiday season. Pictured is the parade in Beloit.

  1. Visit your local outdoor Christmas lights display.

Facebook/GreenBayVisit Zoos, parks and botanical gardens across the state set up amazing displays that put you right in the middle of all the holiday cheer. Pictured is the Green Bay Botanical Gardens.

  1. Get the WE Energies Cookie Book.

WE Energies A Wisconsin tradition that’s been happening on and off since the 1930s, the WE Energies Cookie Book is a staple of my holiday preparations.

  1. Eat some Stollen.

  1. Go sledding.

  1. Pet a Reindeer.

Flickr/Andrew Iverson The cold weather makes these guys pretty prominent. From Christmas tree farms to light displays, you can usually find a reindeer around to charm you and get you ready for the holidays.

  1. Catch the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train.

Flickr/Geof Wilson Not only is it pretty, but it raises money to help other folks have the happiest of holidays.

  1. Drive around looking for Christmas lights.

Flickr/BobbbyLight Whether you’re seeing what your neighbors are capable of or checking out something like West Allis’ Candy Cane Lane, there’s something great about putting on pajamas, bundling up and singing carols while you check out the lights.

  1. Drink some egg nog.

  1. Check out an ethnic Christmas Market.

Facebook/The Osthoff Resort From Holiday Folk Fair to the pictured Christmas Market at The Osthoff in Elkhart Lake to the Swedish in Christmas in Lake Pepin, there are plenty of celebrations of the roots of the folks who live here.

  1. Check out the Capitol Christmas Tree.

Flickr/Michael Leland Always proudly harvested from somewhere in state, the tree is always a behemoth and it fills the Rotunda in Madison.

  1. Ice skate outdoors.

Have you crossed them all off yet? Merry Christmas to everyone from Only In Wisconsin!
