While I don’t like to stereotype people, living in Texas means you will inevitably run into one of the following characters from time to time. See if any of these descriptions fit you!
- The Cowboy (Or Cowgirl)
dave wilson/flickr While fewer and farther between these days, the true cowboy and cowgirl still exist in Texas, and you’ll most likely find them strumming on an old guitar, tending to the land, or riding their horse through the countryside.
- The Nature Lover
adam baker/flickr One weekend you’ll see these folks hiking through Big Bend, the next kayaking through the rapids of Devils River, and the next rock climbing at Enchanted Rock. They just want to explore the mighty lands of Texas while they still have the chance!
- The Artist
nan palmero/flickr You’ll find these creative types of people in mostly the larger cities, where they like to hang out in coffee shops with their dreams and sketchpads, chatting with other local artists about where they can find their next (or first) gig.
- The Diehard Football Fan
victor araiza/flickr In Texas, you won’t have to go too far to find these folks. You probably even have one in your own home, and it might actually be you! From the couch to the stadium, true football fans never miss a game, especially when their favorite team is playing.
- The Hunter/Fisherman
sandra/flickr A true outdoorsman, the hunter or fisherman knows all the best spots to make a good catch, and knows the land like the back of his hand.
- The Transplant
martin prochnik/flickr Yep, we all know that more people are moving here every single day, whether we like it or not. These people are easy to spot, from their non-Texan accents to the way they dress, and everything in between.
- The Hippie
nika vee/flickr You’ll mostly find these folks in organic coffee shops sipping soy lattes, driving ecofriendly electric vehicles, and talking about how yoga and meditation can change the world.
- The Beer Connoisseur
jenn deering davis/flickr They live and breathe beer, and go to every single craft beer festival/event they can find.
- The Texas Foodie
ellenm1/flickr They know about all the new restaurants in town before they’ve even opened, and there’s no type of food they WON’T try.
- The Health Nut
camilla roesen/flickr These people have practically made a second home at Whole Foods and the weekly farmer’s market, and may have even hopped on the vegan/vegetarian bandwagon. They only drink cold-pressed juice, and will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about GMO’s and proper macronutrient ratios.
- The Farmer
..russ../flickr These hardworking folks truly know the meaning of living off the land, and provide us with the wholesome foods we need to survive. Seriously, the next time you see one of them at the farmer’s market or just out and about, please remember to thank them for what they do.
- The Festival Goer
jack/flickr The festival junkie gets excited for any type of event, from the Renaissance Festival to the annual Czech Polka Festival, and everything in between. Come fall in Texas, they have every single weekend booked up with festivals and fairs, and will try to drag you along if you have nothing better to do.
Which one of these are you? I have to say, I resonate most with #2, 7 & 10.
