Portland is know for rain but us Portlanders know that it is not all doom and gloom here in the City of Roses. We have plenty to be proud of our city for, and these are the top 13 reasons you can brag that Portland is the best.
- Great Parks
Daniel Cukier / Flickr We have an incredible park system in Portland. Forest Park is just the icing on the cake. From pools to community gardens to parks in nearly every neighborhood, Portland is committed to its parks and it shows.
- Amazing Mountain Views
Travis Leech / Flickr You don’t even have to be a skier to love our mountains. Just the view around us is pretty amazing and noteworthy. Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Mt. St Helens, and even Mt Ranier (on a clear day) are all visible and we love them so!
- Top-Notch Local Food Scene
drburtoni / Flickr We do local right. With a plethora of farmer’s markets, farms and co-ops to experience local food, there is just no reason not to.
- Winning Restaurants
Terry Feueborn / Flickr We are a food city, and we have some of the best restaurants around. Don’t want to pay for a gourmet meal? We have you covered too with a wide range of food carts with just as wonderful food as the restaurants.
- Local Beer
Karen Neoh / Flickr With over 55 breweries in the city, we have the beer scene on lock. There is no reason to buy national brands when you can have one made just down the street.
- Portland Timbers
Ryan Harvey / Flickr Our hometown soccer scene is top notch. Started in 2011, the Timbers have made it to the playoffs twice and continue to amaze the region with their skill.
- Leading Recycling Program
Meriweather Lewis Elementary School / Flickr Portlanders love the environment and it shows through the programs offered. We lead the country in recycling, offering recycling and compost services throughout the city.
- Portland Winterhawks
Loren Kerns / Flickr Our hometown hockey team since 1976, the Winterhawks are a great source of pride. Playing in the Western Hockey League, the team has won the Memorial Cup twice and has been runner up seven times.
- Beautiful Gardens
brewbooks / Flickr Our green spaces can’t be beat in Portland. We have many beautiful gardens such as the Portland Japanese Garden, International Rose Test Garden, and Lan Su Chinese Garden that are so many levels of beauty waiting to explore.
- Portland Thorns
Ryan Harvey / Flickr Established in 2012, the Thorns have quickly become an integral part of our city’s sports scene. In 2016, the Thorns won the National Women’s Soccer League Shield and continue to make Portland proud.
- Museums and Attractions Galore
Stacy Kizer / Flickr We have some really great museums and attractions in our city. Portland Art Museum, World Forestry Center, Portland Children’s Museum, and the Oregon Zoo are just a few. OMSI, the Oregon Historical Society and the Oregon Rail Heritage Center are a few more.
- Portland Trailblazers
Amy Meredith / Flickr Our biggest sports franchise, the Trailblazers, is a big point of pride for our city. Even in not-so-good seasons, we still love our hometown team.
- Socially Conscious
Francis Eatherington / Flickr We are an un-apologetically liberal city, we care about all sorts of social issues, and we turnout to support and protest them. We had 80 percent voter turnout for the recent presidential election and do good on showing up for the things that matter to us.
