Cemeteries are a place of rest for the dead…but sometimes not all the residents are resting. Stories of hauntings in Utah cemeteries are plentiful on the internet – and some of them are age-old myths dating back more than a hundred years. Stroll through these beautiful places during the day, and visit at night…if you dare.
- Magna Cemetery
Norm Thomas/flickr This little cemetery, perched up on the hill overlooking Magna, is full of sagebrush and lizards. And that’s not all…some have seen strange lights up here, and heard voices.
- Widtsoe Cemetery
Shawn Bagley/flickr The residents of Widstoe were pretty much gone by 1925 - most of them, anyway. The few buried in the little cemetery are still there, and visitors sometimes see ghostly specters wandering through the old graves.
- Grafton Cemetery
Don Graham/flickr Grafton is Utah’s most photographed ghost town, but no one has managed to capture a photo of the supposed ghosts that haunt this place. Most people don’t see the ghouls…they just hear several people talking, as if in a serious conversation. The voices stop as you get closer.
- Salt Lake City Cemetery
Tracie Hall/flickr This cemetery is OLD. The first burial was in 1847, when George Wallace buried his child, Mary. Perhaps she is the child heard crying late at night? You can also see the ghost of “Emo” here…if you light a candle and walk around his crypt three times, then peer inside.
- Park Cemetery, Ephraim
Tracie Hall/flickr This cemetery is haunted by a little boy who might come up to you in broad daylight, appearing lost. You’ll try to take him by the hand, at which point…he disappears.
- Kelton Cemetery

- Randolph Cemetery
DM/flickr The legend of the Randolph cemetery centers around a teenaged boy who may be buried there. He apparently crashed his car in a ditch, but doesn’t know that he’s dead. He wanders around the cemetery, looking lost.
- Goshen Pioneer Cemetery
Ken Lund/flickr When Brigham Young visited Goshen, he insisted that the cemetery be moved, since the land it was on would be good for farming. The cemetery was moved as instructed, but the bodies of 18 pioneers were left behind. At least a couple of them are understandably upset. A memorial marks the spot where they rest, and people sometime hear wails and crying there.
- Sego Canyon Cemetery
Kit Carruthers/flickr This desolate place is the final resting spot for some…but it’s hard to say how many, since many of the graves are unmarked. Visitors report feeling uncomfortable here, like they’re being watched.
- Washington City Cemetery
Raymond Shobe/flickr This beautiful cemetery in Washington is quiet and peaceful. An old man wanders amongst the headstones and is often seen during the day, but if you get too close, he disappears.
- Ogden City Cemetery
Rachael Hectus/flickr A friendly woman in a blue dress is sometimes seen in this cemetery. Dressed in vintage clothing from the 1930s, she will wave at visitors before vanishing.
- Park City Cemetery
qbac07/flickr This cemetery contains the graves of seven miners who died in the 1902 explosion. While the spirits of the miners themselves aren’t seen, strange lights, cold spots and loud noises have been reported here.
- Old Pioneer Cemetery, Mona
Ken Lund/flickr 20 pioneers are buried here; the first grave is dated 1852. Indian trouble forced pioneers out in 1853. It’s said that sometimes anguished screams echo throughout this seemingly peaceful little spot.
- Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden
Joe Barney/flickr The ghost of a little girl is sometimes seen sitting on a gravestone here. Visitors also report hearing the cries of an infant, and a terrifying cackling noise in one area of the cemetery.
