I’m not sure what it is about this time of year, maybe the cold, short days, or the absence of leaves from the trees, but it seems the majority of my photographers are dreaming of ocean escapes and warmer days. I think 75% of submitted images revolved around the ocean or water. I’m not sure why, but this is a week to give thanks on every beautiful part of our state. From the mountains, the Piedmont, and the coast…there is abundant beauty everywhere. But if you are dreaming of a break from the cold and rushing waves, these 15 images will certainly give you some peace of mind. Enjoy!
- “Everything’s Spinning.”
Allen Phelps ““Everything’s Spinning” at the Bodie Island Lighthouse. This was a 676 second exposure to show the stars rotating around the north star, which is just to the left of the light. The long exposure also caused the smudging of the low clouds as they moved away from the lighthouse during this shot."-Allen Phelps

- “Autumn Communion”
Scott Garlock “A Fall favorite…its hard to believe its been a year since I took this photograph.
“Autumn Communion” Paved in hues of burnt orange, an intimate path of fall colors shaded by a cathedral canopy of painted oaks lead wayward strangers to the church of the wild woods for a little autumn communion. (2014)” -Scott Garlock

Jim Brown “Shot this sunset Monday evening on Lake Trace, at Carolina Trace, Sanford, NC. I know it’s against the rule of thirds to place the horizon line dead center - but sometimes it actually works out. This way I got as much sky as I could and as much reflection in the lake as I could. Almost a mirror image.” - Jim Brown
- “Josey Wales”
Terrah Hewett “The “JOSEY WALES” on the Lockwood Folly River at sunrise, beautiful fog had rolled in over night with the cooler temps that Autumn brings.” - Terrah Hewett
- “The Orb.”
Southern-Imagery Fine Art “So with me taking a new outlook on my photography, I have decided to try crystal ball photography. This is a shot of the falls below High shoals falls at south mountain state park. C&C welcome and hope you enjoy.” - Southern-imagery Fine Art.

Riding The Back Roads With Camera In Hand “The cold air of November has rolled into the mountains of North Carolina and I’m reminded of earlier this year at my favorite little (no longer abandoned as of very recently) church. St. Matthews in Watauga county, NC. This is a photo that I captured after a February snowfall this year. Thankfully there is a movement underway by members of the community to save and preserve this beautiful piece of history. The group working to preserve this wonderful piece of history has set up a FB page, you can find it at Save St. Matthews.” - Riding the Back Roads With Camera in Hand.
