New Jerseyans are a diverse bunch, but there are a few things most of us can agree on. Nearly all of us love our beautiful beaches, charming small towns and endless entertainment options, but there are some things that nearly all of us hate; here are 15 of those things.

  1. Traffic

  1. Shore Traffic

Flickr/Ted Kerwin Shore traffic is even worse than rush hour traffic. Every minute on the road means a minute away from the beach.

  1. Tolls

Flickr/Bobby Hidy We get that they’re essential to maintain the roads and all… but we definitely don’t love them.

  1. Litter

Flickr/Daniel Novta Nothing ruins a picturesque park faster than litter. New Jerseyans love our natural beauty and want to keep it as pristine as possible.

  1. Taxes

Flickr/401K 2012 A necessary evil, we know. But they’re reallllllly high in New Jersey and you always hear residents complaining about it.

  1. Beach Fees

Flickr/ChicaBrandita Sure, it’s worth it, but many of us hate paying for our beaches. Still, there are some great free beaches in New Jersey.

  1. Potholes

Flickr/Chris_UK Everyone hates potholes. But we really hate them. You’ll often hear complaints about potholes in conjunction with complaints about tolls or taxes.

  1. Pumping Gas

Flickr/Mike Mozart Leaving the state is such a pain, especially in the heat of summer or cold of winter. I’d rather stay in my climate controlled vehicle… thank you very much.

  1. Taylor Ham

Flickr/Istolethetv You love the meat, not the name. But ONLY if you say Pork Roll.

  1. Pork Roll

Flickr/Ted Kerwin But only if you say Taylor Ham. It just feels strange saying Pork Roll if you’ve been a Taylor Ham person all your life.

  1. Mosquitoes

Flickr/Tom No explanation necessary. They’re the worst, except for…

  1. Ticks

Flickr/Karolina Kabat Two words: Lyme Disease. It can be very serious if left untreated. The disease is on the rise, so be sure to tick check after a hike.

  1. New York City

Flickr/Kaysha The city itself is great, what we hate is when we’re overlooked in favor of a New York name. Jets, Giants, the Superbowl… All in New Jersey, people!

  1. Unpredictable Weather

Flickr/Jason Jenkins We love having 4 separate seasons, it’s when they overlap that’s the problem… Like when you take out the air conditioning unit and have a heat wave, or have a blizzard in April.

  1. Joisey

Flickr/J. Stephen Conn Don’t say it. Don’t even think about saying it.

No matter what we may hate in the Garden State, we all love New Jersey. Which of these things irks you the most? What else would you add to this list?
