Fall is officially here! The days are growing shorter, the air is growing cooler, and everything is just a little bit spookier than it was last month or even last week… There are many different things that we do here in Pennsylvania to ring in this (superior) season. Get pumped… These are the things every Pennsylvanian will be doing this autumn.
- Get lost in a corn maze.
Duncan’s Corn Maze/ Facebook Corn mazes are a fun tradition. Everyone loves wandering around in fields, and it’s a great bonding experience to get lost among corn stalks.
- Visit pumpkin patches.
Kam Abbott/ Flickr Every year, millions of Pennsylvanians strive to pick the very best pumpkin, but only one of them succeeds in bringing it home…
- Carve Jack-o-Lanterns.
Joe Schlabotnik/ Flickr Just kidding about that last caption, there are plenty of wonderful pumpkins in the world. As evidenced by all of the jack-o-lanterns that decorate our stoops in autumn.
- Make and Eat Pumpkin Pie.
Mackenzie Mollo/ Flickr It is a sacred tradition… The most coveted pie in all the land.
- Consume only pumpkin-flavored foods.
Cascading Farm/ Flickr Not only pie, but almost everything can be made pumpkin: cookies, cake, coffee, soup. The possibilities only end with your imagination.
- Pick apples.
Debbie R./ Flickr Apples taste so wonderful when your own elbow grease goes into picking them.
- Pull out the scarves and sweaters.
Aine/ Flickr It’s sweater weather! Cozy up.
- Take a haunted hay ride.
Sleepy Hollow Hayride/ Facebook How fun. I look forward to this all year.
- Go back to school.
dhendrix73/ Flickr Ok, you only go back to school if you’re a kid, but everyone gets to witness that annual joyous moment when the roads are suddenly full of yellow school buses.
- Look forward to Thanksgiving by scoping out turkeys.
stu_spivak/ Flickr Watch out… If you’re a turkey, we’re watching you.
- Watch football.
Christian M. M. Brady/ Flickr Sports!
- Root for your favorite team in the baseball playoffs.
Bryce Edwards/ Flickr This happens in October. Sometimes, your favorite team wins. Usually, they don’t. Go Pirates and/or Phillies!
- Crunch through the leaves.
Micky**/ Flickr There’s nothing in the entire world that’s more satisfying than feeling the crunch of fall leaves underneath your mighty foot.
- Sit out on your porch wearing a sweater and drinking hot apple cider.
Alexis Lamster/ Flickr It’s the perfect time of year for being outside. Not too hot, not too cold.. Just crisp.
- Brace yourself for winter.
roane li/ Flickr This is the worst part of fall… Possibly the only bad thing about it. Gotta go sled dog shopping, because you know weather this perfect doesn’t last.
