I once lived in Nevada for 11 months. Yes, I admit it. It was quite different from Oklahoma. They have a lot of great things but it just wasn’t Oklahoma. Living in Oklahoma means getting accustomed to certain things. From the food we eat, to the friendly people, Oklahoma has a lot to offer – and a lot to miss if you so choose to leave. Here are 16 things people miss if they leave Oklahoma behind:
- Low cost of Living
Flickr/Bill Wilson The combination of low property taxes and real estate makes the state very affordable to own a home.
- Small Town Charm
Flickr/Nicolas Henderson There are so many small towns in Oklahoma that are quaint and homey. They hold a special place in the hearts of Oklahomans.
- State Fairs
Flickr/rchristianb Yes, there will be others, but none of them will feel like home.
- Our BBQ
Facebook/BillySimsBBQ We can’t deny we have some of the best barbecue around.
- Beautiful Scenery
Facebook/Clark Thompson Still a surprise to many, but we have an abundance of natural beauty all over the state (pictured above: The Narrows - Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.)
- Quiktrip
Facebook/Quiktrip It will be hard for you to find a convenience store as good as Quiktrip…especially in certain parts of the country.
- Gas Prices
Flickr/Chip Bennett Oklahoma has some of the cheapest gas prices in the nation.
- Onion Burgers
Flickr/Krista The Onion Burger Capital of the World is in El Reno. You won’t find one better anywhere else.
- Four Seasons
tumblr/beanosucowboy Getting to experience all four seasons is something most Oklahomans enjoy…even if we experience them ALL in one week.
- Our College Football
Facebook/BedlamSports Whether you wear crimson and cream or orange and black, our bedlam is fun.
- Laid-Back Lifestyle
Flickr/Kelly From traffic to everyday life, the slower pace is refreshing and less stressful.
- White Queso
Flickr/Robert Occhialini Believe me on this, if you go to certain states, they usually don’t have any queso at Mexican restaurants, let alone white queso. Oklahoma has great Tex-Mex.
- Dramatic Weather
http://www.indiana.edu/~rpsblog/2015/07/13/things-to-know-about-indiana-weather/ Oklahomans famously love to watch the weather. Can you imagine life without sitting on the porch watching thunderstorms, tornadoes, hail and flooding? 70 degrees and sunny every day is so overrated.
- Fried Pies
Facebook/Weatherford.College We have become famous over the years for our AMAZING fried pies!
- Our Beautiful Lakes
Flickr/James Breedlove With so many lakes to choose from, there is always a lake nearby to play in. From fishing to boating to swimming, our lakes provide many recreational activities year-round.
- Most of all, you’ll miss the people.
Facebook/uoklahoma It’s hard to find as good a bunch of quality folks as Oklahomans!
