Anyone who has lived in New Orleans for a while knows how important it can be to get away from it all from time to time. If all you have is a car, you are in luck. There are some beautiful drives you can take from New Orleans that will transport you to a whole different world of Louisiana. Here are three of them.
- LA-1 South from Luling
Flickr.com / cmh2351fl Travel Down Hwy 90 until you reach LA-1 and you’ll be treated to a long and winding drive down LA-1 to Grand Isle. You’ll reach the LaRose bridge, pictured here, right before Cut Off, LA.
As you travel down this highway, you’ll see many marshes and wetlands along the way.

Eventually you’ll reach Grand Isle, and if you plan it right, just in time for a beautiful sunset.

- River Road South

Eventually you’ll reach the Woodland Plantation, another awesome B&B along the way.

At the end of this road you’ll reach Venice, LA, giving you an awesome perspective on the shrimping industry here.

Just down river is San Francisco Plantation, pictured here, one of the most ornate homes in the area.
