Here in Texas, nothing satisfies us quite like retreating into the woods for some peace and quiet. Sometimes, however, we’d rather keep our creature comforts and have somewhere more like home to stay rather than rough it in a sweaty tent full of bugs. Lucky for us, almost every state park and many other natural areas have cabins available for rent that offer all the modern amenities you need to feel right at home. Here are six that you should definitely check out:
- Bastrop State Park
tpwd.texas.gov Bastrop State Park is nestled under a canopy of pine trees and features a swimming pool, lake, golf course, canoes available for rent, and many scenic trails for hiking or biking. The cabins are very spacious, sleeping from four to eight people and featuring amenities such as air conditioning, full kitchens, and outdoor grills. You can enjoy all the park has to offer and return to home like comforts at night - the best of both worlds.
- Daingerfield State Park
tpwd.texas.gov This park has been voted ‘best trees’ in Texas. There are over six different kinds depending on the season, and combined with the beautiful rolling hills you’ll never forget your stay here for sure. There are three cabins that sleep 4-15 people each and offer air and heat, full kitchens, coffee pots, and outdoor grills. The biggest cabin has steps leading right down to a lake surrounded by trees. Is there anything more picturesque?
- Lake Brownwood State Park
tpwd.texas.gov This park offers 19 cabins accommodating anywhere from two to 26 people each. The appliances are modern, each cabin has a central air and heat unit, and the windows are newly renovated to account for any bug issues - however, the rustic atmosphere that we lust after in cabins is absolutely intact. The park itself has firepits, a clubhouse, a lake for swimming and fishing, hiking trails, and picnic tables underneath the towering oak trees. Sounds like a perfect day to me.
- Palo Duro Canyon State Park
tpwd.texas.gov These cabins are a bit more on the “roughing it” side considering they don’t have full kitchens (some of them don’t even have bathrooms aside from the ones at the park), but that doesn’t mean you won’t have a great time. Sometimes completely giving up modern life for a while is what we need to rejuvenate. Plus, with the breathtaking views you’ll see out your window every morning, I’d say it’s worth it. And the cabins are relatively cheap, too, ranging from $60-$125 a night.
- Garner State Park
tpwd.texas.gov You won’t be spending much time in your cabin here, but they’re nicely equipped with a fridge, microwave, A/C, and shower - all the essentials. Don’t get too comfy, though. Garner State Park is known for its night life above anything else. Campers gather under the pavilion to dance the night away to jukebox tunes, taking breaks only to play a few rounds of miniature golf and grab frozen lemonades from the snack bar. It’s fun for all ages indeed.
- Cooper Lake State Park
tpwd.texas.gov The cabins at Cooper Lake are best known for their large decks overlooking the glistening body of water. There are grills, picnic tables, and, in the spring, gorgeous views of wildflowers. You can’t beat that, y’all. The cabins sleep four to six comfortably with all the modern amenities you need to feel right at home. The park has a beach with sand, hiking trails, a beach volleyball court, and a huge amphitheater and pavilion, making it the perfect venue for any event you might have.
Have you ever stayed in one of these cabins? Where else in Texas has awesome cabins?
