Visiting a general store is just like reliving a blast from the past. A walk through the store will have you reminiscing about the candy and bottled cokes you once enjoyed as a child. Some of these stores in Wyoming are still open and some are no longer in business. Even with the ones that are no longer in business, there is still something nostalgic about seeing the old inviting structures and long ago signs. Facebook/Aladdin Store Aladdin General Store was built in 1896 by Amos Robinson. It was then known as Wyoming Mercantile. The store serves as a general store, post office, bar, gas station and freight station. In 1991, the Aladdin General Store was added to the list on the National Register of Historic Places.

Facebook/Welty’s General Store Welty’s General Store started out as a log cabin just outside of Dubois. The store was built in 1889 by Frank Welty. In 1897, a general store was built within the town of Dubois. In 1898, Welty dismantled his store and attached it to the store inside of the town. The general store provided merchandise and services such as a post office and a medical office. The store is now operated by the founder’s grandson. In 1979, Welty’s General Store was added to the list on the National Register of Historic Places.

Charles Hamilton bought the store from Henry Klamer’s widow in 1902 and altered the store with logs and twigs.

Flickr/JasonBechtel The concept of Menor’s Ferry General Store was established by William D. Menor. He first developed a ferry service across the Snake River. He then built a cabin, the left portion of the building, and subsequently added a kitchen, the vertical planked section, and finally a general store which was in the right side of the building. Here, he sold flour, sugar, coffee, tea and tobacco. Today, the store is operated by the Grand Teton Association. Volunteers are there in period clothing and their merchandise consists of candy, souvenirs, books, and other items.

Flickr/Jimmy Emerson, DVM Herbert Gregory established The Lone Tree Mercantile Company in 1898. The store consisted of dry goods, groceries, hardware, and farm tools. The post office was also located in this store. The old 7-Up signs still hang on the front of the store.
