Alabama is home to some pretty spectacular trails, which are primarily used for hiking, mountain biking and trail running. Some of these trails will even lead you to unforgettable places, including waterfalls and canyons. Let’s take a look at seven of these trails below.
- Green Trail (Peavine Falls Trail)
flickr/Alby Headrick Green Trail (Peavine Falls Trail), located within Oak Mountain State Park, is a 1.7 mile loop trail with a beautiful waterfall as its main feature. This wonderful trail has a moderate rating and it’s primarily used for hiking, mountain biking and birding.
- Walls of Jericho Trail
flickr/Michael Hicks Located in Hytop, the Walls of Jericho Trail is six miles out and back. The most advanced hikers have rated this trail as being difficult. One of the main features along the Walls of Jericho Trail is a waterfall.
- Indian Falls Trail

Indian Falls is only about 0.1 miles from the trailhead and it’s very easy to get to. When you arrive at the wooden footbridge, you’re at Indian Falls. The wooden footbridge crosses over the falls.
- Noccalula Falls Historic Gorge Trail
flickr/Tennessee Wanderer Noccalula Falls Historic Gorge Trail, located in Gadsden, is a 1.4 mile loop trail that’s mostly used for hiking. If you enjoy hiking, the great news is that you’re able to enjoy this wonderful trail year-round. The bad news? This popular trail has a difficult rating.
- Eberhart Trail
flickr/Steve Markos Eberhart Trail, located within the Little River Canyon National Preserve, is the main access to the canyon floor. This amazing out and back trail is only 1.8 miles, but it’s very steep. Eberhart Trail ends at the Little River.
- Stone Cuts Trail

- Chief Ladiga Trail

It offers the most incredible views of the Talladega Mountains. The Chief Ladiga Trail crosses the Pinhoti National Recreation Trail at mile marker 7.0. It then travels west towards Piedmont. Following Piedmont, the trail travels towards Jacksonville and Weaver. It then ends in Anniston, at Mike Tucker Park.
