Did you know we have barns in Southern California that are storybook beautiful? They’re old, they’re rustic, and they’re beyond charming. The kind of barns that are perfect to see on a drive out in the country with windows rolled down and the smell of fresh-cut grass lingering in the air. What a perfect way to have a relaxing weekend.

Let’s go on a little journey and I’ll show you where you can find these beautiful old barns sprinkled throughout SoCal. They’re truly a lovely sight to see.

  1. Camarillo Ranch House in Ventura County

Wikimedia Commons This charming red barn is located on the property of the historic Camarillo House in Ventura County. The house and barn were renovated in 2001 to reflect their original look and style from the 1800s. You can see this beauty in person on Saturdays and Sundays during private docent led tours.

  1. Walt Disney’s Barn in Griffith Park

flickr/sam Howzit Have you heard about the the barn in Griffith Park that used to belong to Walt Disney? This old barn was located on his property in the Holmby Hills and was used as a machine shop. It has since been relocated to Griffith Park where it’s available for the public to see. You can take a tour of Walt’s old barn/museum on the 3rd Sunday of every month.

  1. Longshadow Ranch Vineyard and Winery in Temecula

TripAdvisor/Mini Did someone say wine? How about sipping some wine in an old barn? Now that’s the perfect blend of rustic and chic. Sign me up!

  1. Old Campbell Barn

flickr/Britta Gustafson This barn from the 1920s sure could use some TLC. Located in Santa Barbara on the USB campus, this barn has been abandoned since the 1970s after it was damaged in an earthquake. With a little spit shine and elbow grease, I think this has some potential to be my favorite one on the list.

  1. Edgemoor Dairy Barn in Santee

Yelp/Richard G. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, this former dairy barn turned museum is a historic treasure in the town of Santee.

I hope these old barns have put a smile on your face. I’ve sure enjoyed sharing them with you. Are you ready to pack up the car and take a weekend drive? Which barn in SoCal do you plan on seeing first?
