Sleigh bells in the air, beauty everywhere, yuletide by the fireside and joyful memories there… luckily, readers, you can’t hear me singing Christmas songs all day and all night, because I couldn’t carry a tune even in Santa’s sack! I know that I’m not the only one getting in the Christmas spirit though, because Main Streets and Downtowns throughout the state are celebrating Christmas in Delaware. Where do you like to go to see lights, trees and decorations? Which of these Delaware towns is your favorite during Christmastime?
- Downtown Dover
Jon Lloyd Jr Photography The Green is one of my favorite places to hang out year round, but when it becomes The Green and Red (and blue, and yellow, and orange…). it really is a magical place! Loockerman Street merchants deck all the halls, too, and downtown becomes a winter wonderland.
- Front Street, Lewes
Facebook / Front Street, Lewes Lewes is the most charming of the Delaware beach towns, I think. And Front Street really kicks it up during the holiday season. Walk past businesses and fixtures decorated in the holiday spirit.
- Downtown Milford
Facebook / Downtown Milford Milford kicks off the season with their Holiday Stroll, and from then on, downtown is bright, cheery, and full of Christmas Spirit!
- Historic New Castle
Facebook / Spirit of Christmas Celebration DE The Spirit of Christmas in Delaware is alive throughout the streets of Historic New Castle, where holiday home tours and street theater take over for an entire month. Take a step back in time and enjoy a colonial Christmas!
- Downtown Rehoboth Beach
Facebook / Rehoboth Beach Main Street Rehoboth Beach may be the best place to spend Christmas in Delaware. With a giant tree, seasonal merchants and, well, the beach right there - it’s paradise.
- Main Street, Middletown
Facebook / Middletown Main Street Middletown’s gigantic Christmas tree is the second most famous one in Delaware! If you’re looking for a charming way to enjoy Christmas in Delaware, wander through downtown Middletown and take it all in.
- Main Street, Odessa
Facebook / Historic Odessa Foundation The Historic Odessa Foundation renews the colonial way of life by hosting Holidays in Odessa, where home tours and open houses in museums occur all month long. If you enjoy New Castle, be sure to check out the lesser-known (but just as amazing) Odessa festivities.
If you’ve only got time to explore one Delaware Christmas town, be sure to visit Rehoboth Beach – in fact, it becomes a Complete Winter Wonderland this time of year!
