What is it about eating out that makes life so much sweeter? But, when you happen to stumble on a place that’s off the beaten path it’s even more special. Who wants to go to the same chain restaurant everyone is heading to this weekend? Not me. So, that’s why we’ve put together a list of little known restaurants that might be hard to find–but that’s half the fun!
- ALLEEZ! 4242 Fowler Ln, Ste 101, Diamond Springs
yelp/heather c.
yelp/.casst a. Who would ever think Diamond Springs is home to one of the best French restaurants in the area? Chicken Florentine crepes, anyone?
- Red Apple Cafe 2740 Hwy 50, Placerville
yelp/dominic c.
yelp/lianne p. Once you leave Placerville just mosey on up HWY 50 EB. It’s a gorgeous drive and you may think you’re heading nowhere–but you actually are on target to one of the most spectacular views at a restaurant in this area. Don’t miss it.
- Steelhead Lodge 330 Terwer Riffle Rd, Klamath
yelp/geneva w.
yelp/linnea d. Are you heading up to the Redwoods anytime soon? This is a must. While we admit, it doesn’t have a load of curb appeal, it makes up for it with perfectly cooked steaks, ribs and chicken.
- The Chef’s Table 6843 Lonetree Blvd, Ste 103, Rocklin
yelp/sean v.
yelp/janay s. Some restaurants are hard to find in the open - like the mall. While you’re focusing on sales in the mall there’s this place. One diner had this to say, “Best Pesto Fries Ever!! my hubby and I shared a burger and an order of pesto fries. It was the perfect amount of food for two. They have a good beer selection - we’ll be back!” Enough said. Right?
- Cafe Maddalena 5801 Sacramento Ave, Dunsmuir
yelp/david h.
yelp/lisa p. Dunsmuir is a far away place for most of us–but even this adorable town has a few incredible places for dining. Pan seared scallops with fingerling potatoes sounds pretty good to me.
- Big Sur Bakery 47540 California 1, Big Sur
yelp/ wing y.
yelp/serena e. YES. I’m well aware of this not being EXTREME north of the California equator, but just in case you find yourself in SOCAL by some misfortune, you WILL need a place to stop on your way home. This is the place.
- Boulevard Bistro 8941 Elk Grove Blvd, Elk Grove
yelp/karen t.
yelp/kimthy d. Chicken and waffles? It’s worth the drive, absolutely! Live out that southern lifestyle you’ve only dreamed about and eat it here.
Take your honey out for a bite and an adventure. Make sure you have a full tank of gas. You’re never lost with a full tank of gas!
