Many of New York’s favorite cities find themselves falling right on the riverside, but what about our charming towns? We always love having spectacular views of any sort of body of water, but something about being by the river has an even more small town feel. From being out on the water to viewing it from the top of a mountain, or maybe just enjoying the view from a riverside restaurant, there’s a spot on this list for everyone to explore! Here are 8 river towns in New York you should make a point of visiting this spring:
- Garrison

Pictured above you can see one of the many reasons why you should take a trip to this area, the Boscobel House & Gardens! Filled with so much history, the grounds are a perfect way to spend the day outside and enjoy a picnic.
- Saugerties
Lars Plougmann/Flickr One of our favorites, there’s so much to do in this town that’s also apart of the Catskill Park. You could spend the day outside enjoying the sculpture park Opus 40, take a trip to the Saugerties Lighthouse (pictured above), or enjoy a walk through the Falling Waters Preserve! The options feel endless.
- Croton-On-Hudson
Mark Wyman/Flickr A village full of history, Croton-On-Hudson is a fantastic place to visit all year long. A great place to explore when visiting the area is Croton Point Park but another attraction that visitors also love to check out is the Van Cortlandt Manor, a national historic landmark!
- Sleepy Hollow
Anthony Cuffari/Flickr A quaint village in Westchester County, Sleepy Hollow is just north of Tarrytown and is a popular area to check out. If you’re not interested in taking a creepy tour of the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, then you could also check out the Tarrytown Lighthouse or popular music hall!
- Hudson

- Olean
