Doug Kerr/flickr This iconic building in New York City has a gruesome rumor of being haunted by a headless ghost. This man, once an actor, donated his head to science. Apparently he wanders the premises still looking for his skull.

  1. Washington National Cathedral (Washington D.C.)

Ken Lund/flickr Following the English Gothic architectural style of the 14th century, this cathedral in the nation’s capital is truly a sight to behold. It’s believed that the only president to be buried here, Woodrow Wilson, roams the aisles at night. The tapping of his cane can still be heard echoing throughout the church.

  1. St. Louis Cathedral (New Orleans, Louisiana)

Jason Mrachina/flickr The St. Louis Cathedral is one of the most recognizable sites in the city of New Orleans. Since 1965, the church has been flooded with reports of hauntings. It was this same year that 6 bodies were mysteriously left on the steps. The bodies were buried but their spirits continue to make their presence known.

  1. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (Key West, Florida)

Florida Keys Public Library/flickr Even the beautiful grounds of this tropical church in Key West aren’t safe from haunted spirits. Apparently, a ghost appearing in outdated clothing roams the graveyard at night. Others have seen the ghost of a sea captain nearby.

  1. Old Rock Church (St. Olaf, Texas)

mlhradio/flickr Built in 1886, this church was deserted by 1917. Folks nearby have reported hearing sounds that suggest the building isn’t completely abandoned, though. Voices of the congregation and a woman singing can still be heard today by some.

  1. St. George’s Church (Fredericksburg, VA)

Rick Phillips/flickr Every physical feature about this church suggests warmth and friendliness, although the spirits have a different tale to tell. Some have noticed in photos the appearance of a woman in white roaming the second floor.

  1. St. Luke’s (Cleveland, Tennessee)

J. Stephen Conn/flickr

Brent Moore/flickr St. Luke’s is home of the Craigmiles family mausoleum (photographed above). The white marble is streaked with red, which many believe is due to the tragedies the family faced. Despite efforts to remove the stains, the red always seems to return.

  1. St. Mark’s (Cheyenne, Wyoming)

Jimmy Emerson, DVM/flickr What may appear to be a tranquil place of worship during the day has been known to produce some bone-chilling sounds at night. Troubled voices from the bell tower might belong to the ghost of a stone mason who fell to his death during construction.
