Happy October, Delaware! The 10th month is the spookiest month, with people all over the state beginning their Halloween celebrations a little early. It’s no question that Halloween is huge in Delaware – all you have to do is drive by Frightland to see how seriously we take our haunted holiday. I think that Delaware is the creepiest, most terrifying, spookiest state, and here’s why:
- We’ve got Frightland

- We’ve got a haunted campground - the screams may keep you up all night.
Flickr / Phil Connell Lum’s Pond is a state park where a young runaway girl was murdered in the 1870s. To this day, her screams can still be heard along the Swamp Pond trail - particularly at night. Oh, and the pond is open for camping, if you’re feeling brave enough.
- In Frankfort, there’s a cat-ghost that messes with cars.
Paranormal Apocalypse I enjoy writing about spooky and creepy happenings in Delaware - mostly because I have a lot of fun with it, and I’m not easily convinced that ghosts and spirits really do haunt things. Or, at least I wasn’t, until I wrote about the Catman’s Grave a few weeks ago. Catman is a gravekeeper said to mess with visitor’s cars, trapping them in the cemetery. I had fun writing about Catman, but I must have been typing too loudly, because a week after writing about the ghost, I popped a tire, ran over a traffic cone that fell out of the trunk in front of me, and my car got pelted with one of the tire treads from an 18 wheeler. All within a week. It’s still in the shop.What I think I’m trying to say is that our ghosts really take their reputations seriously.

- Even our Governor’s Mansion is haunted!

- A Delaware State Park is one of the most haunted places in the world.
Facebook / Fort Delaware Fort Delaware has been the site of so much paranormal activity that it is a favorite spot for the TV show “Ghost Hunters,” and local ghost hunting clubs host paranormal investigations throughout October.
- You can spend a night in a haunted hotel.
Facebook / Addy Sea Inn The Addy Sea Inn has been a ghost hotspot for years - even back when it was first established as a hotel, people reported interacting with a (mostly) friendly ghost. If you want a great place to stay in October for a getaway, why not try the most haunted lodging in Delaware?
