Here in Florida, we have some of the best beaches and parks in the country, and we’re not exactly known for our indoor activities. But sometimes our rainstorms last longer than usual, so here are a few ideas for things to do on those rainy days…or when it’s just too hot to stay outside.

  1. Butterfly World

Flickr/Andrew Dallos Rain or shine, it’s always a good time to check out the country’s first and largest butterfly habitat, located in Coconut Creek.

  1. Factory Tours

Flickr/Chris Scott Orlando Brewing, St. Augustine Distillery, and several wineries across the state offer free tours that are mostly or completely conducted indoors. If you’ve never tried this, a rainy day is the perfect opportunity.

  1. Museums

Flickr/Robert Pittman Not many people realize how many awesome museums are spread throughout Florida. These are the perfect places to spend hours indoors that are both entertaining and educational. There are too many to name, but start with the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Villa Vizcaya in Miami, The Ringling in Sarasota, Wonderworks in Orlando, and the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville.

  1. Indoor Rock Climbing

Flickr/Prayitno Just because we don’t have mountains in Florida doesn’t mean you can’t try rock climbing. Companies like Vertical Ventures in Tampa want to help you have fun and get a great workout in a very unconventional way.

  1. The Florida Aquarium

Flickr/Ekistiks Design Studio Maybe you can’t be at the beach, but you can still surround yourself with all things aquatic at the Florida Aquarium in Tampa. This large attraction is guaranteed to have something for the whole family.

  1. Trampoline Parks

Flickr/clarkmaxwell Wouldn’t it be fun to play on a gigantic trampoline? Parks like Sky Zone have popped up across Florida to show you just how fun a rainy day ( or any day) can be.

  1. Shopping

Flickr/Bill Couch Shopping is the perfect rainy day activity, especially in a giant super mall like The Mall at Millenia in Orlando. You can spend hours and hours at a mall this big without stepping in the same store twice. The best part is no one can say you wasted the day, since it was rainy anyway.

  1. Casinos

Somehow I was born and raised in Florida without ever realizing we even had casinos. There are several options, but it seems like the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood would be a good place to start.

  1. DisneyQuest

Flickr/Sam Howzit If you happen to be at Disney World when a thunderstorm strikes, herd your disappointed flock into DisneyQuest for tons of indoor fun. Be warned, though, it’s scheduled to close sometime in 2016. If you’re nowhere near Orlando, there’s most likely an large-scale indoor arcarde near you, though it’s probably not as cool.

Do you have any others to add to our list? Please share them below!
