Haunted places can be found all over the Palmetto State. Many, like the haunted city jail in Charleston and the haunted former insane asylum in Columbia, are very well-known.

- A Haunted Hike

- A Haunted Crybaby Bridge
Panoramio/herdintheupstate This bridge in Union is known in these parts as a crybaby bridge. The story surrounding this spot is that a young woman tossed her crying baby off this bridge in the mid-1900s. And today people report hearing a baby crying and others have reported seeing an apparition of a woman looking down over the edge of the bridge. The bridge is located near Union, South Carolina on Sardis Road enroute to Rose Hill Plantation.
- The Hell’s Gate Haunted Cemetery
Flickr/Trisha Fawver Also known as “Oakwood Cemetery” in Spartanburg, this graveyard, or rather the mischievous spirits here, have earned this graveyard the nickname of “Hell’s Gate.” Reportedly batteries on all sorts of devices get drained very quickly. Additionally, even the usual cemetery vandals stay far, far away from this one.
- A Haunted Road
Flickr/Jinger A drive down this haunted road at night may mean you’ll encounter the vanishing hitchhiker. Folks have reported picking him up from the same spot when it’s raining. - A Haunted Theater
Yelp/Rachel O. Any time you’re at this Columbia performance hall you should brace yourself for weirdo stuff like, cold spots, and those pesky floating apparitions that appear when the lights are dimmed. Longstreet Theater is located at 1300 Greene St, Columbia, SC 29208.
- A Cemetery Haunted By A Witch

Flickr/annaspies The witch of the Graniteville Cemetery in Graniteville, SC is said to manifest and distribute flowers on the graves of the children in the cemetery. She’s also credited for being the wisp of light seen meandering around this graveyard at night.
- A Ghost Train
Flickr/Sarah Altendorf Over in the small community of Hilda, South Carolina there’s a ghost train that makes an occasional appearance. First, you’ll hear the whistle and then you’ll hear it chugging into the station. The only problem is, the tracks were removed a long time ago. Strawberry Chapel, near Cordesville, served the community of Childsbury which was settled in Berkeley County in 1707. The chapel is said to be haunted by a young girl who was chained to a tombstone by her father. Visitors to the location report it’s a very different place at night than in the day, and say there’s an overwhelming sadness and doom present after dark.
