Like any other state, Georgia has its quirks. One of those quirks is our delectable and sometimes strange dishes. For example, shrimp and grits may be disgusting to someone not from Georgia, but to us, there’s no better way to eat grits. Check out these nine strange food combinations only people in Georgia will love.
- Shrimp and Grits
mwms1916 via Flickr A true southern dish is grits and shrimp. We also love to mix catfish, pork, and cheese in our grits. Pictured above is a dish of shrimp and grits from the Jekyll Island Club Hotel.
- Chick-fil-a Sweet Tea and Lemonade mixed together
Shardayyy via Flickr Yes, an Arnold Palmer is a pretty popular drink all over–but here in Georgia we only drink Chick-fil-a made Arnold Palmers! As a matter-of-fact, Arnold Palmers are the drink of choice for Georgians when they visit Chick-fil-a.
- Tomatoes & Vidalia Onions
Laurel F via Flickr A pretty popular southern side dish is vidalia onions and tomatoes. We’ll eat them plain with salt and pepper just like pictured above.
- Brunswick Stew
Joe Loong via Flickr Brunswick stew is a Georgia-grown recipe that is absolutely delicious! It’s a combination of different types of beans, okra, corn, tomatoes, and meat!
- Cracklin Cornbread
jeffreyw via Flickr It’s common here in Georgia to make cornbread with cracklin. Cracklin for non-southern folks is a piece of fried pork fat. It might not sound appeasing, but it’s really delicious!
- Biscuits & Gravy
Albert Lynn via Flickr Biscuits and gravy is a common southern comfort here in Georgia. We especially love to make homemade biscuit gravy with flour, milk, and butter.
- Collard Greens & Ham Hocks
freecandy13 via Flickr We love, love, love to eat greens with ham hocks. Again, a ham hock for non-southern folks is a pig knuckle. There’s nothing more delicious than greens with smoked meat.
- Karo Syrup & Bread
wikipedia A true southern snack is a piece of white bread and some Karo syrup. This is not something I personally like to eat, but I do remember seeing people eat this when I was a child!
- Chicken & Waffles
theimpulsivebuy via Flickr Chicken and waffles is a delicious merging of breakfast and dinner. Pair it with some syrup and you have yourself a delicious meal!
I know everyone from Georgia doesn’t eat all of these combos, but you have to admit, you’ve tried most of them! What strange food combos are missing from this list? Tell me in the comments below!
