Ah, the good ol’ days. While some might argue that Buffalo is just now starting to reach its full potential, many native Buffalonians still yearn for the nostalgia of yesteryear. If you’re one of them, you’ll probably agree with this list of nine things you can’t do in Buffalo anymore… but wish you could. Let’s reminisce:
- Watch a game at The Aud
Mpmajewski - Wikimedia Commons The Aud was an institution in and of itself, and anyone fortunate enough to catch a Sabres game here knows how truly special it was.
- Spend your Sunday at The Rock Pile
Fortunate4now - Wikimedia Commons While we’re glad the Bills didn’t move to Seattle and opted for Orchard Park instead, the verdict is still out on whether or not a downtown stadium should make a return!
- Cheer on a local professional basketball team
Unknown - Wikimedia Commons How amazing would it be to watch the Buffalo Braves battle NBA greats like the Lakers again? Basketball was a blip in Buffalo’s past, but one that we certainly wish would make a return!
- Swim at Gallagher Beach
Gallagher Beach (Chuck Tingley) - Facebook We love this beach for sunbathing and summer strolls, but if you remember swimming in Lake Erie here, chances are this spot doesn’t feel quite the same as your memories. Maybe - hopefully - someday, we’ll be able to take a dip at Gallagher Beach again!
- Shop at AM & A’s
JasonParis - Flickr While Buffalo’s new boutiques and home stores are wonderful, nothing quite compares to the good ol’ days of shopping at AM & A’s!
- Go to a Drive-In movie
Sean Davis - Flickr Sure, there are still select drive-ins available around Buffalo, but they’re certainly few and far between. All those in favor of bringing back more drive-in theaters, say “aye!”
- Find anything you need at the Super Flea
Remembering The Super Flea Flea Market - Facebook Buffalo’s flea markets are top notch, but nothing compares to the Super Flea. Buffalonians loved this flea market so much that there is even a dedicated Facebook page for “Remembering The Super Flea.”
- Hop a train at the Central Terminal
Buffalo Central Terminal - Facebook We had high hopes that this Buffalo gem would become operational again soon, but it looks like the days of catching a train from the Central Terminal might be in Buffalo’s past for good. Nevertheless, this building is jaw-droppingly beautiful, whether trains are running at the station or not.
- Amp up your playlist at Record Theatre
Forgotten Buffalo - Facebook Every party has a pooper, and the pooper this time is that Record Theatre is closing its last Buffalo location on Main Street. Gone are the days of browsing the aisles of vinyls. They will be sorely missed.
