There’s something so romantic about a beautiful covered bridge. Whether surrounded by autumn’s cacophony of colors or shrouded in snow, covered bridges immediately make me think of country road trips in Maine. Many states have them, but we do them best! Check out these amazing bridges in Maine and start planning a trip to see them – in every season!
- Babb’s Bridge, Windham

- The Bennett Bridge, Lincoln Plantation
James Walsh / Flickr Built in 1898 over the Magalloway River, the lumber for construction was sourced in Upton and brought by boat from 25 miles away!
- Bethel Park Walking Path Bridge, Bethel
James Walsh / Flickr A fairly modern bridge, as covered bridges go, this one was built In 2001 by William Dunton.
- Big Adventure Bridge, Bethel
James Walsh / Flickr Designed by the same builder as the Bethel Walking Bridge, the Big Adventure Covered Bridge is the 12th hole of the mini golf course with the same name.
- Lowe’s Bridge, Near South Guilford
Mark Plummer / Flickr Lowe’s Bridge was originally built in 1857 over the Piscataquis River, but was washed away in a flood in April 1987. The bridge was rebuilt in 1990 on the original abutments.
- Hemlock Bridge, Fryeburg
James Walsh / Flickr The Hemlock Bridge was built in 1857 and spans the Saco River. There have been a number of improvements since then, making this one of the most beautiful (and sturdy!) in Maine.
- Sunday River Bridge / Artist’s Bridge, Newry
The B’s / Flickr Built in 1872, the Sunday River Bridge is also known as “Artist’s Bridge” due to its common use in photographs and art. It’s easy to see why! in 1958 it was closed to traffic when another bridge was built nearby, but it’s still worth a sightseeing visit.
- Porter-Parsonfield Bridge, Between Porter & Parsonfield
Scott Law / Flickr The Porter-Parsonsfield Bridge was built in 1859 to connect the two towns of the same name. The bridge spans the Ossipee River, but was closed to traffic in 1960 when another bridge was built nearby.
- Lovejoy Bridge, Andover
Doug Kerr / Flickr Built in 1868, the Lovejoy Bridge spans the Ellis River and is Maine’s shortest covered bridge.
- Watson Settlement Bridge, Littleton
Jimmy Emerson, DVM / Flickr While this photo is a bit of a further bridge view, it’s perfect for capturing the beauty of Maine and the covered bridges that work so perfectly here. Watson Settlement Bridge was built in 1911 and is located on the road to Woodstock from Littleton over Meduxnekeag Stream.
There are certainly other gorgeous bridges here. Where are some of your favorites?
