Here in Kansas, we love horror stories. Whether you’re in a super spooky town like Atchinson, or you used to live in a neighborhood called Sleepy Hollow, chances are you’ve got a story to tell. These 7 haunted lanes in Kansas are sure to give you chills, unless you’re a non-believer. I wouldn’t want to drive here, I’m a scaredy-cat!

  1. Old Corn Field - Gordon

GoogleMaps Outside of Gordon, past the tracks a little ways, there’s a stop sign. Legend says that if you turn your car off and sit with all the lights off, you’ll see several red-orange lights like the lights on an 18-wheeler. If you try to follow it, there will be nothing there.

  1. Bird Bridge - Emporia

GoogleMaps This is where a preacher and his mistress drugged his wife and pushed her car over the bridge into the water. Late at night, it’s said you can hear the screams of the woman and see a pale figure walking on the shore. There was actually a movie called “Murder Ordained” made about the area.

  1. The Highway Man - Burlingame

GoogleMaps Here it’s said that near the intersection of US 56 and 189th, a man in all black walks the highway and disappears when you get too close. Very scary! Reminds me of all the clowns walking around last year.

  1. Child’s Play Cemetery - Le Roy

GoogleMaps At what the locals call “Child’s Play Cemetery” it’s said that you’re supposed to clean your car before visiting. At night, check your car right before you enter to make sure it’s clean. Then, sit inside the cemetery until you hear something hit your car. Get out of there quick! When you get back, check the car and there will be a hand print on a window, as well as many little ones near the bottom of your car.

  1. Coon Creek Bridge - Barnes

GoogleMaps Reports say that just before sunrise, a figure of a girl is seen wandering the area, never making a sound. She doesn’t respond to you calling, and never looks at you.

  1. Cry Baby Bridge - Olathe

GoogleMaps Once upon a time, there were demonic sacrifices here. If you visit, park in the middle of the bridge and turn your car off with the windows down. People have reported that you can hear babies crying, which is beyond creepy to me!

  1. The Devil’s Seven - Gypsum

Steven Usher/Flickr

GoogleMaps It’s said that in the 1950’s a car load of seven local teens was racing along this stretch and slammed into the steep bank on a hill, killing some or all of the occupants. After the accident, the wrecked car was placed on posts at the site to remind other teens of the dangers of Devils Washboard. To this day, they haunt the area.

So, were you scared? Probably not. You’d have to actually visit these haunted roads to feel really scared, I bet. If you’re looking for more spooky fun, check out This Creepy Kansas Asylum That’s The Stuff Nightmares Are Made Of.
