There’s a lot more to health food in life, as we all well know down here in the south. We’d much rather have biscuits than kale, which unfortunately makes us a little bit unhealthy. Soooo here’s a list of the unhealthiest towns in the state  – or maybe the ones with the best taste. You can decide.

  1. Lawrenceburg

Christopher Halls / Flickr Tiny Lawrenceburg may boast Davy Crockett, but it’s not too great when it comes to the health front. Reason it’s on the list? High percentage of smokers. They sure have an irrevocable spot in history, though!

  1. Chattanooga

lmilous / Wikipedia I know what you’re thinking: no, not Chattanooga! Yes, friends. This granola crunchin’ town rife with rivers and hiking spots has a high number of inhabitants who deem themselves ’too tired’ to complete daily activities.

  1. Bristol

Wikipedia Again with the smoking! C’mon now, Bristol.

  1. Covington

Thomas R. Matchnizki / Flickr Covington has some pretty rockin’ schools, so we hope they improve on their health classes. This little town is fantastic, so we’d love to see their health numbers rise on up.

  1. Kingsport

tjntri / Flickr The low median income rate in Kingsport may be causing high numbers of overweight humans, but they also get to live in one of the most beautiful areas in Tennessee.

  1. LaFollette

Brian Stansberry / Flickr 33% of LaFollette is under the poverty line, which increases cheap dinners and visits to fast food joints - which serves many people quite well. Money doesn’t buy happiness, you know!

  1. Nashville

Sammi99tr / Wikipedia Reason for Nashville’s rocky health rating? The city isn’t very walkable, which means people are sitting in their cars instead of getting out and movin'.

  1. Ripley

Thomas R. Matchnizki / Flickr Low income rates, again, are effecting the well-being of Ripley residents. But the people are some of the kindest that you’ll ever meet, and that’s a beautiful thing.

  1. Clarksville

Bob Jagendorf / Flickr Clarksville ranked high with a 33.3% chance of a person being obese if they reside in the city. But, it has a darling downtown area so we’re cool with it. Just means you’ve had a couple more cookies, and let’s all be honest here - they’re rockin'.

  1. Memphis

Larry Donald / Flickr Ah, Memphis. Land of the King’s peanut butter sandwiches and the best bbq on this side of the Mississippi. Thus, a city that ranks on numerous lists as the NATION’S unhealthiest city. We just want to say: good job, Memphis. We’ll be at Rendesvous in a minute - hold a table for us!

Any cities you know of that boast a bit too much gravy with their biscuits? Let us know in the comments below!
