When many of us on the East Coast think about retiring, we think about Florida or the Carolinas. Sure, these places are warmer and often more affordable, but they are not New Jersey. Some of us don’t want to leave our state, and we don’t have to! New Jersey offers many incredible places to retire, whether you’re looking to save some cash or live in luxury. The following cities were chosen based on data including percentage of senior residents, access to medical care, entertainment and recreational opportunities, cost of living and safety.

  1. Hopatcong

Wikipedia/Tomwsulcer This lakeside town offers opportunities for fishing and boating, along with a lower cost of living. Home prices vary, but I recently found a beautiful property right on the lake for just $250K, along with several smaller properties selling for under $100K!

  1. Ocean City

Wikipedia/JoshE3 Though you’ll find this town to be a bit pricier than Hopatcong, there are still several charming condo complexes with units priced under $250K. The location is ideal, situated between bustling Atlantic City and quaint Cape May. You’re sure to love the summers in this beachside resort town!

  1. Haddonfield

Wikipedia/SmallBones Though this town is home to many million dollar mansions, you can still find a lovely home for under $500K. While that is certainly pricey, you get a lot of bang for your buck. Enjoy an incredible historic district, charming downtown and numerous entertainment options. You’re also minutes from Philadelphia and just a short drive to Atlantic City.
