They say that if you want to get some authentic BBQ, you better head south. But while there are definitely some great BBQ joints in the southern states, there are some delicious BBQ joints right here in Wisconsin. We are counting down our nine favorites:

Joe’s Texas Barbecue/Facebook Green Bay locals rave about this place. They were a 2014 winner for Best in the Bay. They offer genuine Texas BBQ. Anything is good, but they’re known for their delectable brisket.
- J&J BBQ (Nelson)
J&J BBQ/Facebook Who knew Western Wisconsin had such great BBQ offerings? They are known for their delicious ribs as well as southern pulled pork.
- Dickey’s Barbecue Pit (Kenosha)
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit/Facebook Dickey’s specializes in Texas-style BBQ, which they’ve been doing since 1941. You’ll drool over their pulled pork and ribs. But the sides are great, too–try the mac n cheese.
- Bob’s Bitching BBQ (Dodgeville)
Bob’s Bitching BBQ/Facebook The name comes from a customer response to an Alfredo sauce this then-caterer made…and it stuck. Customers might use a different word to describe this BBQ, but they can all agree it’s delicious. What’s unique about this place is that Bob isn’t trying to mimic anyone else’s style, but creates a truly Wisconsin-style BBQ. You’ll dig the meat and you’ll love the sauces even more.
- Parker John’s BBQ and Pizza (Kiel)
Parker John’s BBQ and Pizza/Facebook The pizza is good…but you’ll want to make sure to have enough room for BBQ. The owners spent three years in Kansas City and are taking their experience and bringing you mouth-watering BBQ. Meat just falls off the bone.
- Saz’s State House (Milwaukee)
Saz’s State House/Facebook In operation for almost forty years, Saz’s has been consistently serving up great BBQ. The BBQ ribs are award-winning, and the BBQ pork sandwich is a must-eat.
- Blowin’ Smoke Barbecue (Waunakee)
Blowin’ Smoke Barbecue/Facebook Blowin’ Smoke offers Kansas City style BBQ and it’s like none you’ve ever had because it is smoked in 2 custom smokers. The result: tender, juicy meat flavored just right.
- Smoke Shack (Milwaukee)
Smoke Shack/Facebook The meat is dry-rubbed and individually sauced. But if you want some of this delicious meat, you better get there early. There’s often a line and it almost always sells out.
- Double S BBQ (Cambridge)
Double S/Facebook The owner comes from Texas, and serves up delicious BBQ side-by-side with Texas faves like armadillo eggs. Also, be sure to try the buttermilk pie!
