If you live in Louisiana for even just a short time, pretty soon you realize that we don’t really have the normal seasons. Instead, we have some alternative ways to mark the years. Here are real seasons of Louisiana, brought to us by LouisianaTravel.com.

  1. Mardi Gras Season: Ranges from Early January - Mid March

  1. Crawfish Season: Late Winter - Early Summer

As soon as their telltale mud homes start popping out of the ground you know that crawfish are just around the corner. Let the boils begin! Prime time is March-April-May.

  1. Snowball Season: Mid-March - Mid-September

Basically, we have hot season, March-September, and then not as hot season from Sept-March. But this ingenious treat is really something special.

  1. Crab Season: Late April - Early Fall

  1. Shrimp Season: White Shrimp - April-Dec, Brown Shrimp - May-July

The boats above were leaving port from Venice, LA, but there are so many boats out at any given time harvesting the incredible bounty throughout the season. And of course, what better way to enjoy them than with grits?

  1. Football Season: Sept-Jan

  1. Oyster Season: October -April

Do you agree with these ‘real’ Louisiana seasons? Any you would add or subtract? Let us know! We love to hear from you.
