Hiking can be a very rewarding experience. A trail may have a few difficult spots or a long trek, but it might all lead up to a fantastic view at the end or give you an experience you won’t forget. North Dakota has quite the list of hiking trails, ranging from easy walking trails to tough uphill climbs. Quite a few of these trails lie in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and this one in particular will definitely leave you feeling accomplished once completed.

This trail is known as the Buckhorn Trail and is located in the North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

The trail explores deep within the canyons and above them on the prairies.

The animal that most people take the trail for, though, isn’t big bison, it’s the little critters that live in these hole-covered prairies.

You could observe the prairie dog towns for hours, watching them scamper across the ground, pop up out of their homes, and interact with each other.

You may even be lucky enough to see both the prairie dogs and other animals at the same time.

The Buckhorn Trail is definitely a hike where unforgettable memories will be made. The trail is located about 20 miles south of Watford City, ND, on Scenic Drive, the main road through the North Unit that is off of US-85.
