This has been a crazy year out here in Tennessee. Why, you ask? Well. We’ll show you – the good, the bad, and the ugly. How we’ve pulled together as a state to heal our wounds and rejoice together. It’s been quite the year, friends – let’s make 2016 even stronger.

DailyNews Armed with a pellet gun and a hatchet, gunman Vincente Montano stormed the Antioch two-dollar theatre at Hickory Hollow. There were no casualties other than the gunman, who was killed on scene.
- Tennessee’s Promise - Free Community College
City of Greeneville More than 16,000 students have taken advantage of free community college, paid for by the state. It has made national headlines and changed many futures for the better.
- The Vanderbilt Rape Trial Reaches a Conclusion
Jamie Bernstein / Flickr Although the situation remains tentative, there was solid movement forward regarding former Vanderbilt football players in a solid rape case brought against the school. There have been rumors of a mistrial and new trial dates set for early 2016.

Mike_tn / Flickr It was a strange Christmas this year, as tornadoes swept from one end of the state to the other on the night of December 23rd. There were a handful of casualties, as well as quite a few folks huddling in their basements.

TripAdvisor As the only city from the United States to make the list - one that scoured the world’s top travel destinations, mind you - we’re pretty proud of our neat little town.

NBC News After the young woman’s remains were found in late 2014, the Bobo case snowballed in 2015. News story after news story piled in, though the trial is set for 2017 at publication.
- The Nashville Ice Storm
jcbonbon / Flickr Let’s never forget the frigid February and March of 2015 that shut down Nashville for a solid week. Many people were stranded without power, and numerous cars and casualties were left in the storms midst.
- A Deadly Chattanooga Shooting
wycb / Flickr It broke our hearts and brought us together through tears. In July 2015, Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez chose to open fire on two military sites in Chattanooga. Five of our great men died that day.
It was quite the year, quite the year. A sobering thought, but one that can bind us as a community and PUSH our great state to be better, to always move forward towards a great, ambitious future.
