Did you find any time this summer to lay on the beach? Are you struggling with regrets before fall is even here? Then maybe it’s time to adventure to a hidden oasis far away from it all. Head here and don’t forget to bring a few snacks, a towel, your favorite book…and number one person. You can thank me later. Have you been to Point Reyes lately? Sculptured Beach awaits!
Sculptured Beach1 Bear Valley Rd Point Reyes Station
flickr/daniela In the southern part of Point Reyes lies a sacred beach gem that awaits your arrival. I think it’s time you head this way.
Low tide is the time to go.
flickr/tom spaulding You can get here a couple ways…if you’re staying at the Point Reyes Hostel you can walk here or there’s the trail from the Santa Maria Beach. One person said this, “Just be careful not to get trapped by rising tides as some of the access points get cut off by high water.”
Sea stacks, rock arches, caves…oh my!
flickr/chuck b. The natural “sculptures” in the rocks are where this oasis gets its name. There’s nothing better for the senses than seeing mother nature show off.
Clothing warning.
flickr/tom spaulding There is one thing that makes this a teensy bit crazy - because of the secluded nature of the beach, there are some who take it upon themselves to making it a “clothing optional” destination. Beware. You’ve been warned.
Beach tunnels, too!
flickr/chuck b. While I’m sure you’re going to be smart enough to bring a cooler with lots of snacks and goodies, make sure you bring along your good camera. You know…the one you only bring out at Christmas. Every beach tunnel deserves the good camera for special shots.
From here to eternity.
flickr/chuck b. Okay, so maybe I’m just a romantic at heart, but wouldn’t this be an awesome spot to experience your very own “from here to eternity” movie moment?
There’s still time.
flickr/terry chay Summer isn’t officially over for another six weeks, people. In California, I’m not sure it is ever NOT beach season, even when it gets chilly. We’re people who love the ocean. So, enjoy some tide pools and hiking to new places. This secret beach is awaiting your arrival.
