It’s hard to find a truly remote location in New Jersey, but they do exist. In yesterday’s post I mentioned Sea Breeze, one of the most secluded locations in the Garden State. It’s along the shore, about halfway between Cape May and the Delaware River. However, you won’t find any restaurants there. For one of the most remote restaurants in New Jersey, you’ll have to head a bit further south. Read on to see what I mean…
Restaurant Latour
Facebook/Crystal Springs Resort Restaurant Latour is one of New Jersey’s finest gourmet restaurants, tucked away in the mountains of Sussex County. You’ll find it on the grounds of Crystal Springs Resort, offering incredible views and even better food. The ever changing multi-course menus with fresh, local ingredients are sure to please and the service is simply spectacular. But this article isn’t all about Restaurant Latour, it’s about what’s hiding underneath.
Cellar Stairs
Image/Crystal Golf Resort Restaurant Latour is located in New Jersey’s northernmost county, so what did I mean by further south? The restaurant is home to one of the finest wine collections in the world, and to experience it, you’ll need to descend underground.
Through The Cellar
Image/Crystal Golf Resort According to the New York Times, The Cellar is home to over 9,100 labels and an impressive inventory (135,000 bottles) over 50 years in the making. Bottles date back to 1795. The Cellar has won countless awards both nationally and internationally, including the prestigious Wine Spectator Grand Award. Their Bordeaux collection is considered by experts to be the best in the world.
Entering The Bordeaux Room
Image/Crystal Golf Resort You’ll find several cavernous rooms throughout the cellar, each with individual climate controls. Temperatures are generally kept between 52 and 56 degrees, with humidity closely monitored. Carefully planned out, the 25 million dollar cellar is truly exceptional. If you’re willing to splurge, the cellar offers two spectacularly appointed dining and tasting rooms. They make an exquisite, intimate venue for private parties.
Pure Opulence
Image/Crystal Golf Resort Dining does not come cheap at Restaurant Latour. The 5-course tasting menu is priced at $115, with wine pairings starting at $55, prices only go up from there. I can’t even imagine the cost of private dining in The Cellar, though I am sure the experience is unforgettable. Luckily, you don’t need to spend a cent to see the wine cellar for yourself. Complimentary guided tours are held daily at 3:00 pm.
