Happy Thanksgiving, Mainers! Today we’ll keep this short and sweet so you can spend time with the people, animals and things that mean the most. Living in Maine means we have so very much to be thankful for. From the myriad outdoor opportunities to the camp we grew up visiting in the summer to the family that lives close enough to hug on a daily basis. When you need a break from the action, take a few minutes to read through this list of reasons we have to be thankful for living in Maine.

  1. Acadia National Park.

Kim Seng / Flickr With views like this one of the Bass Harbor Lighthouse, it’s hard not to be thankful for our coastline. It’s a great place to take out-of-town family when it’s time to get out of the house for a change of scenery.

  1. Our ability to take on anything.

Sean Blake / Facebook As Mainers, we truly are ready for anything when it comes to weather. Winter’s coming? NO PROBLEM! And, of course, thanks to Temp Tales for summing up our state so perfectly.

  1. Whoopie Pies.

Carmen López / Flickr Thank you, Maine, for perfecting the most perfect treat of all time.

  1. Portland International Jetport.

Keith Tiszenkel / Instagram This photo was take yesterday, the day before Thanksgiving. Thank you, Portland, for having the most tame holiday travel situation in all of America.

  1. Wild turkeys.

Chrislk02 / Wikimedia Commons Even if we don’t munch down on the feathered friends that cross through the front yard, we can always tell our visiting family that the turkey on the table is local. They’ll never know and they’ll go home telling everyone how authentic their Thanksgiving was.

  1. Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy.

Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy Website You’ve helped us through late nights out and this Thanksgiving, you’ll help us through an entire day with long-lost random family.

  1. Moxie in the fridge.

Maine Memes / Facebook Love it or hate it (we think it tastes like medicine) it feels good to look in the fridge and see those cans of Moxie. It’s a nice reminder that there’s no place like Maine. Now, if only the beer in this picture was Baxter, we’d be all set.

  1. Baxter State Park.

Jim Liestman / Flickr We have some of the most gorgeous state parks in the country. Baxter State Park was gifted by former Maine governor Percival P. Baxter. The only stipulation was that it must remain wild. It certainly has. Thank you, Mr. Baxter.

  1. Friends working at L.L. Bean.

  1. Bowdoin College.

Gwynfisher / Wikimedia Commons Thanks for existing in Maine. You make us feel smart. NOTE: We know there are other incredible colleges here, but isn’t Bowdoin beautiful? Yes, yes it is.

  1. Maine’s lakes.

Dana Moos / Flickr Tourists tend to think of our coastline, but we’re thankful for the amazing lakes we’ve got here in Maine. This photo of Moosehead Lake goes a long way in proving this.

  1. Southern Maine hunting.

Allison Richards / Flickr I mean, Hannaford. How else would Southern Maine put a turkey on the table?

Okay, what did we leave out? What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
