When we say that Red Lodge is a creepy place, we’re not talking about the way it looks. In fact, the downtown area is quite charming, and the surrounding area is downright visually stunning. Red Lodge’s creepy factor comes from all the reported UFO sightings and strange paranormal activity over the years.
If you grew up anywhere near Red Lodge, you probably heard stories of UFO sightings in the area.
Jeff Wright / Flickr The Red Lodge area seems to be a hot spot for UFO activity and mysterious occurrences like cow mutilations. The most notorious UFO sighting happened in 1977, and the main witness was a 12-year-old girl.
But if you never see a UFO in the sky, there’s still a chance you’ll see a ghost.

Most of the paranormal activity within Red Lodge city limits seems to happen at the Pollard Hotel.
David G / Yelp This hotel already has a long and colorful list of past visitors. In 1897, guests of the Pollard Hotel witnessed the Sundance Kid rob the bank across the street. These days, guests seem to have the most experiences in rooms 309-312, many claiming that they feel odd, dizzy, lightheaded and confused. Some guests have seen a woman in a yellow dress wandering the halls.
There’s also a lot going on at the Little Cowboy Bar in Fromberg, which is about 20 miles away.

But the creepiest story of all is the Little People of the Pryor Mountains.
PROBureau of Land Management / Flickr The Crow Indians believe that these mountains are sacred. They claim that this is the home of the “little people,” ferocious characters who protect the tribe and have been known to tear the hearts out of enemies’ horses. There’s not much evidence that this is true, obviously, but apparently a mummified dwarf was found by two prospectors in 1932, sitting cross-legged in a nearby cave.
Red Lodge is a peaceful place now, but records show that there was a lot of violence here at the turn of the 20th century.
Frank DiBona / Flickr This could explain some of the activity that seems to be so common here.
