No matter where we are in the country—living, visiting or exploring—we all have struggles we tend to deal with. Some struggles are a bit harsher than others, but we all do what we can to keep on truckin’. However, there are certain struggles that are absolutely Georgia-specific and may be a bit different from struggles most anywhere else. Take a look at 12 struggles everyone in Georgia can relate to, and see if you’ve experienced a few of these yourself:
- When you’re about to pull out your shorts and t-shirts and then Mother Nature just laughs.
Flickr Jamie McCaffrey You easily can experience four seasons in one weekend.
- When you pronounce “Atlanta” in front of anybody else in the country, and they stare.
Flickr PROMike Boening Photography Ask any Georgian, everyone is pronouncing Atlanta wrong. It’s “Add-lanna.” Ditch that extra “t” at the end.
- Whenever you see an English bulldog walking down the street you have to double-take to make sure he isn’t famous.
Flickr Torrey Wiley And of course, if it is the UGA mascot, then you’ll absolutely ask for a paw-tograph.
- If they don’t offer you hot sauce than you’re a tad bit offended.
Flickr Mitch Bennett Georgians like their hot sauce. It’s a staple for most. Therefore it should be offered always.
- The clock hitting 5 p.m. and you’re sitting right in the mouth of traffic hell.
Flickr Gregor Smith Traffic in Georgia can be miserable. Downtown Atlanta traffic is just sheer insanity.
- The suspicious look you get when you hold open a door for someone from out-of-state.
Flickr 8 Kome Southern hospitality flows freely in Georgia. Yet, there always are those visitors from other states that think there is some ulterior motive for your kindness.
- When all you do is combine two little words, and people chuckle.
Flickr Steve Terrell You + All = Y’all. It’s just simple math, really.
- “The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry” may or may not have torn your family and friends apart.
Flickr JR P The Auburn Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs first faced off in 1892 and they have played nearly every year since, only postponing three games which occurred during WWI and WWII.
- The fact that allergies are less of a burden, and just more of a way of life.
Flickr nutmeg66 Pollen? Yep, it’s everywhere. And we all just kinda accept it.
- Pepsi just really shouldn’t be an option.
Flickr Hernán Piñera It’s Coke, people. Coke is the only soda pop option we should allow in this great state.
- Brunswick Stew should be made in a gigantic cauldron and shared with hundreds.
Flickr Paul Stein The famed Georgian stew shouldn’t be made in a small pot. It really needs to be crafted in gargantuan amounts and fawned over by many.
Have you experienced any of these Georgia-specific struggles? Or perhaps we’ve missed a few that you know your fellow Georgians can relate to. Share them with the group!
