When people think of Vermont, they often picture red barns, green pastures and black and white cows, ready to make the best cheddar cheese in the world. But guess what? Crazy things happen here too! Are you ready for a list of insane things that happened in Vermont in 2015?
- Is Grace Potter going solo?

- Randy Quaid, fugitive caught!
Twitter/eviquaid Actor Randy Quaid, older bother of Dennis, was apprehend after hiding out in Canada for years to avoid the warrant out for his arrest. He was caught trying to cross the border in Vermont and sent to jail over felony vandalism charges.
- Rutland Raiders beat Middlebury Tigers.
burlingtonfreepress.com A win is a win, but the Middlebury tigers had a 32-game winning streak that was broken in the championship game by the Rutland Raiders. Now that’s impressive!
- Tammy Miller hit a new state record moose archery kill.
Tammy Miller/ Facebook Tammy harvested this new archery record moose in Norton, Vermont. The moose broke last year’s record set by Kevin Rice of 919 lbs. Tammy’s moose weighed 931 lbs and had a 53 ¾” spread.
- Setting cold records.
Flickr/Lulumière The Queen City broke a century-old record on February 24 when the temperature plummeted to minus 19 degrees. The previous low for this date was 18 below zero back in 1914.
Montpelier also fell to minus 19, dropping past the record of 12 below set in 1968 on that date. And if you think negative 19 sounds rough, how must the residents of Canaan and East Berkshire feel? The mercury dropped to minus 37 in both of those northern towns during the overnight hours on that date.
- Warm Christmas records.

- Coffee inflation? Fear not (yet).

- A hero in Manchester.
Flickr/Pulpolux !!! If it hadn’t been for the heroic efforts by 42-year-old truck driver John Matala, Manchester may have been forced to evacuate much of the town of 4,300.
On Nov. 12, Matala was badly burned while turning off the valve from a 10,000-gallon propane tank that had inadvertently been left open by a previous driver.
The fire chief said the cloud of propane from the leak covered about an acre, and an explosion could have been catastrophic.
- A socialist senator running for president.
